Mechanic will be responsible for the troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of the fleet road equipment, including tractors, trailers, thermo-king units, converter dollies, and maintenance vehicles. Ensure compliance with all State and Federal trucking regulations. Mechanics will also be responsible for documenting, completing, and maintaining current maintenance logs for all repairs and parts used daily. The position will require performing road rescue as needed.
This application is only available to active-duty service members eligible to participate in a DoD SkillBridge Internship. The service member must be within the last 12 months of their active-duty contract. This is an unpaid, non-benefit eligible internship position in partnership with the DoD SkillBridge program.
Responsibilities include troubleshooting, diagnosing, rebuilding, replacing, and completing repairs on diesel equipment (tractors, trailers, bobtails, reefers, lift gates, etc.). Perform preventative maintenance within company standards. Complete documentation of repair orders, PM lists, and parts accountability. Handle road service calls and perform road rescue/transport as needed. Log repairs in the Shop Fax system. Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with safety rules and regulations. Manage inventory and recordkeeping. Provide backup support to other maintenance personnel. Be willing to assume increased responsibilities and certifications. Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements include at least 3 years of verifiable hands-on experience as a heavy-duty commercial diesel or reefer mechanic, or a combination of both; or 2 years of experience with Diesel Mechanic Certification or TK/Carrier Refrigeration Certification, or both. Demonstrate diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, independent analytical and problem-solving abilities, and experience in administering PM programs.
Must furnish own personal hand tools. CDL A and DOT certification are preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required include compliance with EPA and OSHA regulations, reading and understanding technical manuals, excellent communication and teamwork skills, multitasking in a fast-paced environment, adaptability, computer proficiency, and flexibility to work nights, weekends, and overtime.
