This full-time internship position is exclusively available for active-duty service members nearing the end of their contract, offering hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of relevant experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and knowledge of compliance regulations.

Qualifications

DoD SkillBridge Fleet Mechanic - Diesel Technician

**This application is only available to active-duty service members eligible for the DoD SkillBridge Internship.** The service member must be within the last 12 months of their active-duty contract. This is an unpaid, non-benefit eligible internship in partnership with the DoD SkillBridge program.

Role Overview

The mechanic will be responsible for troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of fleet road equipment including tractors, trailers, thermo-king units, converter dollies, and maintenance vehicles. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with all trucking regulations, documenting repairs, and performing road rescue as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, rebuild, replace, and repair diesel equipment (tractors, trailers, reefers, etc.).
  • Perform preventative maintenance according to standards.
  • Document all repairs, maintenance, and parts used.
  • Handle road service calls and perform road rescue/transport as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records and inventory.
  • Ensure a safe, clean work environment in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Backup other maintenance personnel as required.
  • Willingness to assume increased responsibilities and certifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience as a heavy-duty diesel or reefer mechanic, or 2 years with Diesel Mechanic or TK/Carrier Refrigeration Certification.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance programs.
  • Own personal hand tools.
  • CDL A and DOT certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of EPA and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to read technical manuals and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, and overtime as needed.
Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency with computer systems and software.
