The mechanic will be responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining fleet road equipment, including tractors, trailers, thermo-king units, converter dollies, and maintenance vehicles. The role requires ensuring compliance with all state and federal trucking regulations. Mechanics must also document repairs, complete maintenance logs, and keep them current. The position involves performing road rescue as needed.

This application is only available to active-duty service members eligible for a DoD SkillBridge Internship. The service member must be within the last 12 months of their active-duty contract. This is an unpaid, non-benefit eligible internship in partnership with the DoD SkillBridge program.

Responsibilities include:

1. Troubleshoot, diagnose, rebuild, replace, and complete repairs on diesel equipment (tractors, trailers, bobtails, reefers, lift gates, etc.).
2. Perform preventative maintenance within company standards.
3. Document all repair orders, PM lists, and parts used.
4. Handle road service calls and perform road rescue/transport as needed.
5. Log repairs in and out of the Shop Fax system.
6. Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with safety regulations and guidelines.
7. Maintain inventory and proper records.
8. Support other maintenance shop personnel as needed.
9. Willingness to assume increased responsibilities and certifications.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years of verifiable hands-on experience as a heavy-duty diesel or reefer mechanic, or 2 years with Diesel Mechanic Certification, TK/Carrier Refrigeration Certification, or both.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
• Proven ability to work independently and solve problems.
• Experience in managing preventative maintenance programs.

Additional requirements:

• Must furnish personal hand tools.
• CDL A and DOT certification preferred.
• Knowledge of EPA and OSHA regulations.
• Ability to read and understand technical manuals.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Adaptability to organizational changes.
• Computer skills and software experience.
• Flexible schedule, including nights and weekends; overtime as needed.
