Job Description Summary:

Faegre Drinker has an opportunity for a Document Specialist & Copy Editor to work with our team in our Minneapolis, Dallas, Denver, Florham Park, Philadelphia, Princeton or Wilmington office. This part-time position provides firm-wide support services to attorneys, paralegals and administrative support staff pertaining to the creation, revision, transcription, formatting, and proofreading of legal documents in a timely and efficient manner. This position will work with other talented individuals who share a passion for doing great work in the best interest of our clients.

While this is a fully remote position, candidates must reside where we have a firm office location and work 12:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. (Eastern Time) Monday - Friday.

Job Description:

What you would do:

  • Take responsibility for all proofreading and editing of documents to ensure quality in grammar, spelling, punctuation, cohesive writing style, and all around document integrity.
  • Create, revise, format, compare, type and transcribe legal documents as well as charts, spreadsheets, presentations and diagrams using a variety of application software; generate and update Tables of Contents, Table of Authorities, and Indexes.
  • Troubleshoot and repair corrupt documents using DocXtools; type and/or transcribe correspondence; set-up mail merges for letters, envelopes and/or labels for mass mailings.
  • Create and assemble electronic Closing Binders.
  • Convert files to multiple formats such as PDF, RTF and Text as well as Microsoft Word and Excel spreadsheets utilizing Nuance Omni Page software.
  • Create and modify PDF forms in Adobe Acrobat and PDFDocs; create real estate contractual documents and forms utilizing AIA software.
  • Troubleshoot problem documents and provide technical expertise to clients on application software (e.g., Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Acrobat).
  • Create event materials (e.g., nametags, tent cards, etc), as requested by operations teams and/or in conjunction with Creative Services.
  • Work in collaboration with Business Development and Marketing, Client Technology Solutions, Manager of Client Design Services and Office Services to provide seamless completion of projects across departments.
  • Monitor, track and take ownership of requests assigned to team using workflow tool such as BigHand Hub.

The anticipated initial hourly rate for someone who is hired into this position is $32.67 – $36.51/hour annually based on a 22.5 hour a week schedule. Actual initial hourly rate may be above or below the above-identified range and will be based on the relevant skills, training, experience, and other job-related factors, including the location where the position is filled, in all cases consistent with applicable law. This is a non-exempt role paid on an hourly basis with a 22.5-hour schedule work week. The initial hourly rate listed above is just one component of Faegre Drinker's total compensation and benefits package for professional staff, which includes, but is not limited to, a discretionary bonus; life, health, accident, and disability insurance; and a 401(k) plan.

What is required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism or Communications or related field preferred.
  • Minimum four years’ experience in a document support environment.
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat required; experience with document management systems, and basic knowledge of vector (pdf, svg, sps, ai) and raster (jpeg, png, gif, tif) image formats a plus.
  • Basic to intermediate proficiency with DocXtools, Litera Microsystems Change-Pro, Microsoft Visio, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and In-Design, a plus.
  • Excellent proofing, grammar and communication skills required.
  • Prior experience working within a law firm considered a plus.
