Job Summary: Document Controller, Houston TX
The Document Controller manages the lifecycle, revision control, and archival of all quality, engineering, and manufacturing documentation within an AS9100 Rev D certified environment. This role is directly responsible for assembling, auditing, and releasing comprehensive Certificate of Conformance (C of C) and quality data packages required for aerospace, defense, and high-reliability industrial customers.
Responsibilities
Quality & Aerospace Documentation Packages- Compile, verify, and deliver rigorous Certificate of Conformance (C of C) data books and documentation packages for aerospace shipments.
- Audit supporting package records: Material Test Reports (MTRs), Mill Certs, First Article Inspection Reports (FAIR per AS9102), Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) results, special process certs (heat treat, welding, plating), and calibration logs.
- Reconcile purchase order quality flow-downs and customer quality clauses (Q-Notes) against the completed document package to guarantee 100% compliance prior to product release.
- Maintain customer portal access as required for customer-specific document transfers.
Document Control & AS9100 Rev D Compliance- Maintain and enforce document control procedures per AS9100 Rev D requirements, ensuring only current, approved engineering drawings, routings, work instructions, and specifications are in use on the shop floor.
- Administer the Engineering Change Order/Notice (ECO/ECN) workflow, tracking approvals, updating revision logs, and archiving obsolete documents to prevent unintended use.
- Coordinate customer-facing document submittals (SDRLs/CDRLs, deviation requests, and document approvals) and log return statuses.
ERP & Quality System Maintenance- Maintain digital document archives, traveler sign-offs, and certification records within the ERP/QMS software.
- Support internal, registrar, customer, and regulatory (e.g., Nadcap, FAA, defense) audits by rapidly retrieving traceable objective evidence and quality records.
- Manage record retention schedules per statutory, regulatory, and customer-specific duration requirements.
- Prepare Inspection Reports for review and final sign off by QC inspectors.
Job Description
- High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree or technical certification preferred.
- 2+ years of document control or quality administrative experience in an aerospace, defense, precision manufacturing, or pressure-vessel/welding manufacturing environment.
- Direct experience with AS9100 (Rev D) and/or ISO 9001 document control standards.
- Proven track record compiling aerospace C of C data packages and auditing MTRs, special process certifications, and AS9102 First Article Inspection documentation.
- Proficiency with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) / Quality Management Systems (QMS) and advanced PDF editing/compilation tools (e.g., Adobe Acrobat Pro, Bluebeam Revu).
- High attention to detail with strong organizational, communication, and cross-functional auditing skills.
Required Qualifications:
- Familiarity with thin-walled metal bellows, expansion joints, metallic hoses, or welded assemblies.
- ITAR/EAR Compliance: Experience handling ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) and EAR (Export Administration Regulations) restricted data, given that aerospace bellows can be used in defense or military aviation applications.
- Experience managing documentation for raw material certifications (MTRs), material test reports, and special processes (like welding, NDT/Non-Destructive Testing, and heat-treating) common in bellows production.
