Job summary

Position Summary

The Document Control Analyst is responsible for maintaining the accuracy, security, traceability, and controlled distribution of manufacturing and quality documentation used in the production of high-reliability printed circuit board assemblies.

This position supports IPC Class 3 aerospace, defense, and other highly regulated customers by ensuring that employees have access to the correct revisions of customer drawings, specifications, bills of material, work instructions, routings, inspection criteria, and quality records.

The Document Control Analyst works closely with Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, Program Management, Planning, Purchasing, and Information Technology to ensure that documentation changes are reviewed, approved, implemented, and retained in accordance with customer, regulatory, and company requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Document and Revision Control

Maintain the company’s controlled document system, including policies, procedures, work instructions, forms, specifications, drawings, inspection criteria, and manufacturing records.

Receive, review, process, and release new or revised customer and internal documentation.

Verify that customer drawings, bills of material, approved vendor lists, specifications, and related documents are at the correct revision before release to production.

Ensure obsolete or superseded documents are removed from points of use and properly archived.

Maintain revision histories and complete audit trails for all controlled documents.

Monitor customer portals and other approved communication channels for drawing, specification, and purchase-order changes.

Ensure that only authorized and approved documents are available to production and inspection personnel.

Maintain master document lists and document distribution records.

Control the use of electronic and printed manufacturing documentation throughout the facility.

Coordinate Engineering Change Orders, Engineering Change Notices, document change requests, and temporary deviations.

Route changes to the appropriate departments for technical review and approval.

Verify that all required approvals are received before documents are released.

Work with Engineering, Quality, Planning, and Program Management to establish effective implementation dates and work-order effectivity.

Confirm that changes are properly incorporated into routings, work instructions, inspection plans, bills of material, and manufacturing systems.

Identify open work orders or inventory that may be affected by a revision change.

Maintain records of change implementation, including affected work orders, serial numbers, assemblies, and materials when required.

Support disposition and documentation activities related to deviations, waivers, and customer-approved changes.

Manufacturing Documentation

Review manufacturing documentation packages for completeness before work orders are released.

Verify that documentation packages contain the correct drawings, specifications, assembly instructions, inspection requirements, and customer-specific requirements.

Support the creation and maintenance of manufacturing travelers, routers, process instructions, and inspection records.

Ensure that special process requirements are clearly identified, including requirements for soldering, cleaning, conformal coating, staking, inspection, testing, serialization, and packaging.

Coordinate updates to electronic manufacturing and enterprise resource planning systems when document revisions change.

Review documentation for conflicting revisions, missing specifications, incomplete instructions, or unclear customer requirements.

Escalate documentation discrepancies before material is issued or production begins.

Maintain configuration traceability between the customer purchase order, assembly revision, bill of material, manufacturing routing, and completed product.

Quality and Regulatory Compliance

Support compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, IPC-A-610 Class 3, J-STD-001, customer-specific requirements, and applicable aerospace and defense regulations.

Maintain document-retention schedules in accordance with contractual, regulatory, customer, and company requirements.

Protect documents and technical data subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations, Export Administration Regulations, confidentiality agreements, or customer security requirements.

Ensure controlled technical data is accessible only to authorized personnel.

Support internal, customer, registrar, and regulatory audits by retrieving requested records and demonstrating document traceability.

Assist in investigating document-control-related audit findings, escapes, or nonconformances.

Participate in corrective and preventive action activities involving document accuracy, revision control, configuration management, or record retention.

Ensure quality records remain legible, identifiable, retrievable, protected, and properly retained.

Records Management

Maintain manufacturing and quality records such as travelers, inspection results, test records, certificates of conformance, material certifications, solderability records, training records, and customer approvals.

Scan, index, archive, and retrieve completed production documentation.

Verify that completed work-order packages contain all required signatures, dates, inspection stamps, test results, and supporting documentation.

Identify incomplete or inaccurate records and coordinate corrections with the responsible department.

Maintain secure electronic and physical archives.

Respond to requests for historical manufacturing, inspection, and traceability records.

Prepare document packages for source inspection, customer review, first article inspection, and product shipment when required.

Cross-Functional Support

Work with Program Management to clarify customer documentation and deliverable requirements.

Support Engineering with the release and revision of drawings, work instructions, and process documentation.

Coordinate with Planning to ensure manufacturing routings and work-order documentation reflect current requirements.

Work with Purchasing and Receiving Inspection to ensure supplier documentation requirements are clearly communicated.

Assist Quality Inspectors and Production Supervisors in resolving documentation questions at the point of use.

Train employees on document-control procedures, revision awareness, proper record completion, and document security.

Recommend improvements to document-control processes, workflows, and electronic systems.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Two or more years of document control, configuration management, quality records, engineering support, or manufacturing administration experience.

Experience working in an electronics, aerospace, defense, medical device, automotive, or other regulated manufacturing environment.

Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify revision discrepancies and documentation errors.

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, and electronic file-management systems.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, bills of material, specifications, purchase orders, and manufacturing documentation.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and revision-sensitive tasks.

Clear written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to handle confidential, proprietary, and export-controlled information.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate degree in business administration, quality, engineering technology, manufacturing, or a related field.

Experience in printed circuit board assembly manufacturing.

Familiarity with IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-A-620, AS9100, and ISO 9001 requirements.

Experience supporting IPC Class 3 aerospace or defense products.

Experience with Engineering Change Orders, configuration management, and work-order effectivity.

Familiarity with ERP, manufacturing execution, product lifecycle management, or quality management systems.

Experience using customer portals to retrieve drawings, specifications, purchase orders, and revision updates.

Knowledge of ITAR, EAR, cybersecurity, and technical-data access-control requirements.

Experience supporting internal, customer, or third‑party quality audits.

Audit findings related to document control, configuration management, or record retention.

Response time for customer, auditor, and internal document requests.

Percentage of obsolete documents removed from points of use.

Effectiveness of document‑control training and procedural compliance.

Reduction in production delays caused by missing, incorrect, or outdated documentation.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.

Ability to occasionally lift and carry document boxes or production records weighing up to 25 pounds.

Ability to move between office, production, inspection, and records‑storage areas.

Ability to comply with electrostatic discharge, personal protective equipment, safety, and security requirements while entering manufacturing areas.

This position operates primarily in an office environment located within an electronics manufacturing facility. The employee may regularly enter production areas containing manufacturing equipment, chemicals, soldering operations, inspection equipment, and controlled materials.

The position requires adherence to all company safety, quality, security, electrostatic discharge, export‑control, and confidentiality requirements.

Must be able to work additional hours when required to support customer deadlines, audits, engineering changes, or production needs.

Pay Range

$25 - $30 USD

ITAR/EAR Compliance: Due to the nature of the work performed at Rocket EMS, this position may require access to export‑controlled technical data or technology. The successful candidate must be eligible to access such information under applicable U.S. export‑control laws or be eligible for any required government authorization.
