Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Doctor’s Technician role based in Charlotte, NC. The Doctor’s Technician supports the on-site optometrist by preparing patients for exams, collecting medical histories, and performing pre-testing such as visual acuity, autorefraction, and intraocular pressure measurements according to established protocols. The role includes accurately entering patient information into electronic systems, maintaining exam rooms and equipment, and assisting with patient flow to ensure efficient daily operations. The Doctor’s Technician educates patients on exam procedures, reinforces the doctor’s instructions, and collaborates with retail team members to provide a smooth, positive eye care experience. The position also involves following safety and compliance guidelines, adhering to company policies, and contributing to a welcoming environment for patients and colleagues.

Qualifications

• Experience in patient-facing clinical or healthcare support roles, such as medical assistant, ophthalmic or optometric technician, or similar positions.
• Strong technical skills in basic eye exam pre-testing, use of diagnostic equipment (e.g., autorefractor, tonometer), and accurate data entry into electronic systems.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain procedures clearly and maintain a professional, respectful manner with diverse patients.
• Solid organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to handle multiple patients, prioritize tasks, and support efficient clinic workflow.
• Commitment to patient safety, infection control practices, and adherence to healthcare and company compliance standards.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, move between exam rooms, and perform light physical tasks related to patient care and equipment handling.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an ophthalmic or optometric technician program, or relevant healthcare certification, is preferred.
• Prior experience in optical retail, eye care, or medical office settings is beneficial but not mandatory; willingness to learn and participate in ongoing training is essential.
