Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Dockworker to efficiently load and unload freight, using forklifts or manual methods while adhering to safety standards.

You will secure cargo and ensure proper staging and truck routing to support on-time deliveries. The role requires familiarity with shipping documents, hands-on experience with dock equipment, and a willingness to work in a fast-paced service center environment.

Qualifications

• Must have working knowledge of safe and efficient lifting and transporting procedures.
• Must have working knowledge of procedures surrounding freight transportation.
• Must have knowledge of loading techniques such as loading tight and cross loading.
• Familiarity with freight movement forms (shipping orders, manifests, freight bills, reports).
• Ability to use the dock yard management system to monitor shipment locations.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight on trailers using forklifts, pallet jacks, or manually per DOT guidelines.
• Transport freight within the service center on non-forgiving surfaces.
• Monitor freight locations using the Yard Management System.
• Read shipping labels and complete freight forms as required.
• Hand load, rewrap, or stack freight as needed.
• Ensure quality loading of all trailers and secure freight.
• Secure freight with pallets, straps, or cords inside trailers.
• Communicate with service center staff; work fast-paced and deadline-driven.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
