Job summary

Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys and the Office of the U.S. Attorneys in Montana seeks a Docketing Technician (Office Automation) to maintain automated records through case life cycles. You will handle inquiries, ensure accurate data, and support docketing with various software outputs.

Duties

If selected for this position, you will serve as a Docketing Technician (Office Automation) for the United States Attorney's Office, District of Montana. Typical work assignments will include:

  • Develops and maintains automated records from initial referral to final disposition and case file closure.
  • Receives inquiries on case status.
  • Retrieves information using routine queries from hard copy reports.
  • Exercises confidentiality, tact, discretion and judgement in determining what information may be properly released.
  • Integrates output from different software types (e.g., tables produced by applications and charts and graphs produced by electronic spreadsheet applications) into work processing or desktop publishing text.
  • Develops local docketing training and activities and materials.
  • Advises other docketing personnel on unique or complex cases or situations.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

Qualifications
Applicants must possess and demonstrate in their application packages that they meet the following minimum qualifications:

To be qualified as the GS-05 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience.

Specialized Experience

At least ONE full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level in Federal Service. Specialized experience may include: experience performing data entry in systems; reviewing reports to identify errors; maintaining records and disposition files; ensuring documents are accurate with formatting, spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

Education

Four years of education above high school leading to a bachelor's degree in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the prerequisite. One year full-time study is defined as 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) or the equivalent or 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for 36 weeks in business, secretarial or technical school.

Combination of Education and Experience

Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

GS-06:

To be eligible at the GS-06 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05. Examples of specialized may include: experience updating and extracting legal data; researching a variety of legal sources to obtain and/or verify information; developing and maintaining automated records for final dispositions and case file closures; reviewing statistical reports to respond to inquiries; determining if case files should be maintained or closed based on data review.

Additionally, to be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.)

Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)-

The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.
