Job summary

The School District of Ashland is seeking a devoted instructional aide for Lake Superior Elementary. The role supports multiple core subjects, using differentiated instruction and evidence-based strategies to help diverse learners achieve reading, math, and language arts goals.

The position requires 18+ years of age, a high school diploma or equivalent, and 3–6 months in early childhood settings. An associate degree in ECE or higher is preferred along with a registry certificate.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent as determined by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
• 3–6 months of past experience in an early childhood setting.
• Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education, OR a Bachelor's Degree with two ECE courses, OR registry certificate indicating qualification.

Responsibilities

• Support instruction in core subject areas using differentiation based on curriculum standards.
• In-class support sitting with identified students, clarifying, redirecting, encouraging.
• Small group instruction with identified students, in-class or pull-out.
• Provide one-to-one academic and/or behavioral support for Tier II/Tier III students (math and reading/language arts).
• Utilize multi-sensory approaches to boost social, emotional, and academic outcomes.
• Effectively use and integrate technology in the instructional setting.
• Prepare required documentation in a timely manner.
• Coordinate and collaborate with other school staff.
• Extensive mobility and willingness to perform duties outdoors.

Job description

• Location:
  Lake Superior Elementary (Location subject to change at the discretion of the district and student needs.)
• Date Available:
  2026-2027 SY

Hours: 8 hours / day with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break; 8:45 AM - 5:15 PM;
Monday-Friday (May change at the discretion of the District).

FTE: 1.0 FTE School Year Position with the potential for summer hours based on enrollment

This position requires, but is not limited to the following:

• Ability to support instruction in all core subject areas utilizing effective strategies for differentiating instruction utilizing knowledge of curriculum based standards.
  • In class support sitting with identified students clarifying, redirecting, encouraging students.
  • Small group instruction working with identified students clarifying, redirecting, encouraging students—in class or pull out.
  • Providing one-to-one academic and/or behavioral support for students identified as needing tier II or tier III intervention. Academic support is focused on math and reading/language arts instruction.
• Flexibility and willingness to work with students utilizing a multi-sensory approach to increase students' social, emotional, and academic successes.
• Experience and/or training in reading and mathematics learning strategies.
• Ability to use evidence-based classroom management strategies and techniques.
• Ability to use evidence-based individual behavior management strategies and techniques.
• Ability to meet students' social and emotional needs utilizing non violent crisis intervention techniques.
• Ability to effectively use and integrate technology in the instructional support setting.
• Ability to prepare required documentation in a timely manner.
• Ability to coordinate and collaborate with other adults within the school.
• Extensive mobility and willingness to perform job duties outdoors.

Required Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Have completed high school or its equivalent, as determined by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
• Have at least 3-6 months of past experience in an early childhood setting.
• Have an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education; OR a Bachelor's Degree with two courses for credit in Early Childhood Education (is preferred, but not required); OR a registry certificate indicating you are qualified as a child care teacher.

Level 9 Certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working positively with elementary school students.
• Knowledge and understanding of Play Based Instruction.
• Experience in implementing effective learning and behavior interventions.
