We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join the OD Family as a Dockworker. This role is vital to ensuring the safe, efficient loading and unloading of freight, as well as supporting overall warehouse and material handling operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, a commitment to safety, and be team-driven. As a critical part of our team, you will help uphold our promise of delivering customer freight accurately and on time, contributing to our OD Family culture.

Job Summary

The dockworker will efficiently load and unload freight, ensuring correct items are placed on the right trucks. Safety is paramount. Dock Workers will use equipment like forklifts and manual techniques to handle materials. Proper securing of freight with airbags, cardboard, and straps is crucial to prevent damage during transport. This position directly impacts the reliability of customer deliveries.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Load and unload freight on trailers using forklifts, pallet jacks, or manually, following DOT guidelines. Use various loading techniques such as tight or cross loading.
  • Transport freight and personnel throughout the service center on non-forgiving surfaces.
  • Utilize the Dock Yard Management System to monitor shipment locations.
  • Read and interpret shipping labels and complete freight movement forms such as shipping orders, manifests, freight bills, and exception reports.
  • Hand load, rewrap, or stack freight as needed.
  • Ensure quality loading of trailers.
  • Secure freight inside trailers with appropriate tools and supplies.
  • Maintain frequent contact with service center personnel; work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.

Job Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience:

  • Knowledge of safe lifting and transporting procedures
  • Understanding of freight transportation processes
  • Experience with loading techniques and forms related to freight movement
  • Ability to operate yard management systems
  • Availability to meet customer schedules
  • Ability to operate a handheld tablet

Physical Demands

Must meet physical requirements, including:

  • Standing, sitting, walking, bending, climbing, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, gripping, pinching, and cognitive skills for safety and efficiency

Work Environment

Exposure to various environments, including weather conditions, noise, and lighting variations. Reasonable accommodations available.
