We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join as a Dockworker. This role is vital for ensuring the safe, efficient loading and unloading of freight, and supporting warehouse and material handling operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, a commitment to safety, and be team-oriented. Job Summary

The dockworker will efficiently load and unload freight, ensuring correct items are placed on the right trucks. Safety is paramount, and Dock Workers will use equipment like forklifts and manual techniques to handle materials. Proper securing of freight with airbags, cardboard, and straps is crucial to prevent damage during transport. This position directly impacts the reliability of deliveries to customers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Load and unload freight on trailers using forklifts, pallet jacks, or manual methods in compliance with DOT guidelines. Use various loading techniques such as tight or cross loading.
  • Transport freight throughout the service center on non-forgiving surfaces.
  • Utilize the Dock Yard Management System to monitor freight locations.
  • Read and interpret shipping labels; complete forms like shipping orders, manifests, freight bills, and exception reports.
  • Hand load, rewrap, or stack freight as needed.
  • Ensure quality loading of trailers.
  • Secure freight inside trailers with appropriate tools and supplies (e.g., straps, airbags).
  • Maintain frequent contact with service center personnel; work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.

Job Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience:

  • Knowledge of safe lifting and transporting procedures
  • Understanding of freight transportation processes
  • Familiarity with loading techniques and freight forms
  • Ability to operate yard management systems and handheld tablets
  • Availability to work flexible hours to meet schedules

Physical Demands

The physical demands include standing, sitting, walking, bending, climbing, lifting objects up to 100 lbs., and working in various environmental conditions. Candidates must be capable of performing these tasks safely and effectively.

Work Environment

Employees will work in diverse environments, including loading/unloading areas, enclosed trailers, and outdoor conditions, with exposure to noise, weather, and varying lighting. Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities.

Work days are Monday through Friday, with an evening shift. Schedule details may change based on business needs.
