Job summary

Asian Law Caucus seeks a Temporary Project Coordinator in San Francisco to support Election Protection and voting rights initiatives. You will coordinate poll monitoring volunteers and manage assignments with a focus on accuracy and timely communication.

Job description

Type: Temporary, Non-Exempt, Full-time. This will be an approximately 9-week program working 40 hours per week.

Location: San Francisco, CA. This is a hybrid role that is required to work in the office 2 days a week.

Reports to: Eileen Ma, DNI Program Director

Compensation: This is a Temporary, Non-Exempt, and Full-time position. The hourly rate for this position is $34.66 per hour.

The Opportunity

The individual in this role will provide support for and play a coordinating role for the ALC's Election Protection and other voting rights advocacy this fall. The Temporary Project Coordinator will handle administration and logistics for poll monitoring, including correspondence and management of volunteers, polling place assignments, and related components; track and provide support for partner organizations, complete data analysis and research assignments in support of DNI projects, and other admin and support roles related to ALC's democracy defense work. The Temporary Project Coordinator will work closely with DNI's Senior Project Coordinator and will be supervised by the DNI Director.

The Organization

ALC is the nation's first legal organization focusing on advancing and defending the civil rights of Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities. Since 1972, ALC has fought for access to affordable housing in San Francisco's Chinatown, litigated high-profile civil rights cases, advocated for the passage of landmark policy changes, and provided an array of services, including community education, advocacy, and direct client representation to further the rights of low-income immigrants and communities of color, across our Housing Rights, Workers' Rights, Immigrant Justice, and National Democracy Initiative programs, and other emerging areas of law.

Responsibilities

Day-to-day activities include the following:

• Tracking and management of volunteer recruitment for poll monitoring program
• Correspondence and relationship management with volunteers
• Data analysis and research in support of polling place assignments
• Correspondence with and support for local and national partner organizations.
• Participation in local and statewide policy coalitions or convenings as needed.
• Support for event planning and programming, and other informational/educational opportunities for organizational partners and community members.
• Research and data analysis for democracy projects as needed.
• Writing and editing of DNI resources and publications, such as fliers, factsheets, training materials, presentations, reports, social media content, other toolkits or informational materials for distribution and/or use by partners and ALC.
• Other assignments and administrative duties

Desired Qualifications

• Some college preferred
• Demonstrated interest in civil rights and racial justice issues, and commitment to advancing the rights of low-income, people of color, and/or immigrant communities.
• 1-2 years of experience working with, serving, or organizing in immigrant communities or historically under-represented communities, preferably with some civic engagement or voting rights experience.
• Familiarity with California
• Highly detail-oriented and organized.
• Data analysis and mapping skills: experience analyzing and managing spreadsheets and large quantities of data with geographic location
• Strong written/oral communication skills and strong analytical skills.
• Some graphic design skills, using apps like Canva or other design software.
• Bilingual skills in Chinese, Vietnamese, or another API language preferred.
• Interest in community engagement and policy advocacy
• Enthusiastic team player and self-starter.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
