Job summary

UW Medicine is seeking a DME Coordinator for the UW Medical Center-Montlake Rehabilitation Therapies team in Seattle. The role focuses on procuring equipment, coordinating devices for patients, and ensuring proper documentation prior to discharge.

You will work with therapists, providers, nursing staff, and social workers to manage DME orders, insurance authorizations, and equipment maintenance, ensuring safe, timely delivery and clear communication.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in the rehab program specialty.
  • Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field and/or experience in a Rehab field.
  • At least 2 years of experience within a health field, preferably rehab and/or with durable medical equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate ordering of equipment and adaptive equipment prior to patient discharge.
  • Coordinate necessary documentation for patient and department equipment.
  • Arrange insurance authorization for patient equipment.
  • Coordinate delivery and track equipment through authorization process.

The UW Medical Center-Montlake – Rehab Therapies has an outstanding opportunity for a DME Coordinator.

Work Schedule

Full-Time / 40 Hours Per Week, Tuesday-Saturday 8:30-5:00 pm in the office, Day Shift.

Position Highlights
  • In accordance with the policies of the University of Washington Medical Center's Rehabilitation Therapy Department, the DME Coordinator plays a vital role within the team.
  • This individual collaborates with therapists, providers, nursing staff, and social workers to procure and coordinate the appropriate equipment and adaptive devices for patients.
  • The DME Coordinator is responsible for the management of coordination of durable medical equipment (DME).
  • This includes coordinating the ordering of equipment, supervising its receipt, ensuring routine safety and maintenance checks, and managing equipment storage.
  • Additionally, this position may involve oversight of equipment technicians.
Primary Job Responsibilities
  • Facilitate ordering of equipment and/or adaptive equipment, oxygen, and supplies, as identified by therapists and providers, prior to patient discharge from UWMC.
  • Facilitate ordering of equipment for Rehabilitation Department.
  • Coordinate the necessary documentation for patient and department equipment including, but not limited to, physician prescription, justification letter, progress notes, purchase orders.
  • Coordinate necessary insurance authorization for patient equipment.
  • Coordinate delivery of equipment with the equipment supplier and the delivery site.
  • Track equipment/adaptive devices ordered for patients through the authorization process.
  • Receive and organize equipment according to therapy department and UWMC procedure.
  • Coordinate safety and maintenance of Rehabilitation Department equipment.
  • Provide general clerical assistance with telephoning, faxing, copying and coordinating paperwork for equipment procurement and receipt.
  • Maintain communication with the UWMC health care team on patient status/needs via the medical record and daily consultation.
Required Position Qualifications
  • High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in the program specialty.

Desired Position Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field and/or experience in a Rehab field.

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details
