Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of inpatient hospital coding or completion of AdventHealth inpatient training.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, or CPC-P certification preferred.

Job Location: Monday-Friday - Remote

The role you’ll contribute:

Assigns codes to hospital inpatient accounts utilizing the 3M Encoder and Dolbey Computer Assisted Coding programs. Collaborates with Case Management, the Billing Office, Coding Manager, Clinical Documentation Improvement specialists, and the coding team to code and release accounts for the Multi-State Division. Resolves chart correction issues daily and works with the team to ensure the Coding Department is within two days of discharge and meeting DNFC goals. Assists in training other team members on inpatient coding as needed.

  8. Possesses coding knowledge across all specialties for multi-hospital acute care.
  9. Codes all diagnoses, treatments, and procedures for inpatient records according to policies and guidelines.
  10. Abstracts inpatient charts, verifies CAC codes, and assigns diagnosis and procedure codes following ICD-10, ICD-PCS, and Coding Clinic guidelines.
  11. Reviews and verifies diagnostic information supporting assigned codes.
  12. Communicates coding issues impacting claims processing, accuracy, and compliance to management.
  13. Monitors queue holds, adheres to hold timelines, and releases accounts appropriately.
  14. Maintains productivity and accuracy standards as outlined by leadership.
  15. Reviews and corrects coding on accounts, maintaining high accuracy and timely completion.
  16. Works closely with CDI specialists for complete documentation.
  17. Participates in performance improvement and coding reviews.
  18. Meets productivity and accuracy standards, including a 96% coding accuracy rate.
  19. Provides excellent patient/customer service and problem resolution.
  20. Sets priorities and manages time effectively to meet deadlines.
  21. Continually improves skills through education and training.
  22. Codes all patient types as required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Inpatient Coding knowledge
  • Knowledge of coding guidelines and Coding Clinic guidelines
  • Proficiency with Cerner, 3M Encoder, and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to review documentation and enter data accurately

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma and medical coding certificate or 2-year HIM program
  • 1-3 years of inpatient hospital coding or completion of AdventHealth inpatient training

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 3-5 years of inpatient hospital coding

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION:
