Job Description - Division Paralegal (2501612)

D.R. Horton, Inc. is currently looking for a Division Paralegal. The right candidate will support Division Counsel, Land Acquisition, and Land Development Dept by coordinating legal requirements necessary to meet Division goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Inform Division on a regular basis regarding status of transaction and anticipate next steps
  2. Prepare and submit requests for approval from Division to Region/Corporate on Purchase and Sale Agreements, Earnest Money Releases, Subordination Agreements, and issuance of contractual Notice of Suitability that align with the terms of the contract and are supported by financial and legal documents
  3. Prepare first drafts of Purchase and Sale Agreements and related amendments for attorney review
  4. Communicate with outside counsel, title officers, and escrow officers regarding deadlines and Division’s needs
  5. Draft real estate closing documents and review settlement statements
  6. Attend and host meetings with various departments in support of the Division’s projects
  7. Request and analyze title commitments
  8. Analyze deeds, surveys, site plans, easements, HOA/CC&R documents
  9. Analyze weekly funding reports from Finance Dept
  10. Organize and maintain daily correspondence
  11. Store and manage project files and archives in the company’s electronic filing system
  12. Understand company business processes and policies to recommend necessary changes to contracts
  13. Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company
  14. Ability to work overtime

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  2. Paralegal certificate
  3. A minimum of two years of related experience
  4. Excellent written and oral communication skills
  5. Ability to prioritize deadlines and quickly pivot between a variety of tasks
  6. Must work within tight deadlines and budget(s) and have time management skills
  7. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities with attention to detail
  8. Strong organizational skills
  9. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and/or oral form or via company applications
  10. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Outlook email
  11. Ability to sit for majority of 8-hour workday; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision
  12. The noise level is generally moderate

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school a plus
  2. Experience in acquisitions or real estate transactions preferred
