Job summary

San José State University in San José, California, is seeking an Assistant Baseball Coach to support the Division I program under the Head Coach. The role covers recruiting, team travel, conditioning, academics, scheduling, budgeting, and donor relations.

The successful candidate will assist in practices and game events, help with student‑athlete well‑being and academic monitoring, and collaborate with athletic staff to develop a nationally competitive program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent pitching coaching experience.
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to a multicultural population and educational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with coaching the team at practices and competitive events, scheduling and overseeing individual pitcher/catcher workouts.
  • Assists with academic oversight and personal well‑being of student‑athletes.
  • Assists in building a nationally competitive Division I program through successfully recruiting and retaining high‑level student‑athletes.
  • Collaborates with the Head Coach, athletic trainers, and Strength and Conditioning Coach to design academic year and summer conditioning programs.
  • Assists with budgeting, reconciling expenses, and proposing purchases for the sports program.
  • Serves as a liaison to the broader university community, engaging in alumni, fundraising, and other stakeholder activities.
  • Organizes community service events for the team.

Education

Bachelor’s degree / equivalent pitching coaching experience
