Position Summary:

To coordinate all aspects of environmental, health and safety (EHS) management to successfully meet or exceed enterprise and business unit goals.

Scope/ Supervision and Interaction

The EHS Manager will report to an individual with responsibility in manufacturing or operations for the business segment.

The EHS Manager has a dotted line relationship with Corporate EHS and other functional business unit leaders as well as EHS Managers within their business segment.

Scope will usually be a small high risk division, a medium size division, a large size low EHS risk division or a small region such as a portion of a Country. This position has direct reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Facilities team within a unionized environment, ensuring effective collaboration and compliance with union regulations.
  • Lead and execute EHS programs and procedures cascaded from Corporate, Group or Division to meet enterprise and business unit EHS objectives and targets with an emphasis on Safety and Accident Prevention, EHS Regulatory Compliance, and Resource Conservation.
  • Implement and maintain applicable EHS management systems, including Corporate EHS Directives, ISO 14001 certification, and other relevant standards.
  • Oversee EHS reporting, including performance against targets, regulatory reporting, and requirements from corporate, business units, and customers.
  • Manage an EHS training program for employees and leadership across the business unit.
  • Oversee an EHS corrective action program, including audits, inspections, incidents, and assessments, excluding environmental remediation of property.
  • Manage resource conservation initiatives related to energy, water, and waste from production.
  • Lead EHS programs for process changes involving new processes, equipment, materials, and personnel.
  • Support EHS aspects of acquisitions, divestitures, facility closures, and environmental remediation projects.
  • Collaborate with other functional leaders to integrate EHS into Lean, Quality, Supply Chain, HR, Sales, and Innovation processes, leveraging existing systems.
  • Promote a culture of safety and environmental excellence through effective communication and leadership.
  • Manage EHS considerations for contractors working on-site.
  • Support the development and implementation of EHS strategies for the business unit.

Requirements:

  • College degree or equivalent in a technical field such as EHS or science.
  • 7+ years of relevant EHS experience.
  • Proven ability to lead and influence change effectively, especially in union environments, with strong team leadership skills.
  • Experience in industrial work environments with EHS responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of EHS regulations and safety management practices.
  • Experience with resource conservation management.
  • EHS certifications are a plus.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and strategic planning skills.
  • Ability to interpret and translate EHS requirements into business language.
  • Strong process management and continuous improvement skills.
  • Passion for EHS and practical application skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and capacity to work independently.
