Overview

One Brooklyn Health (OBH) — comprising Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, Interfaith Medical Center, and Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center — is seeking an accomplished oral and maxillofacial surgeon to serve as Division Chief of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery within the Department of Dental Medicine & Oral Maxillofacial Surgery. The Division Chief will provide strategic, clinical, and administrative leadership for the OMS division across the OBH system, overseeing a comprehensive scope of oral and maxillofacial surgical services in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The role carries significant responsibility for the OMS Residency Program and for interdisciplinary surgical collaboration across the hospital system. OBH operates on Epic Wisdom, providing a fully integrated electronic health record environment supporting clinical documentation, care coordination, and quality reporting across all three campuses.

The Department of Dental Medicine & Oral Maxillofacial Surgery provides comprehensive dental services by a team of general dentists and board certified / board eligible dental specialists including oral surgery, pediatric dentistry, endodontics, periodontics, orthodontics, dental anesthesiology, and oral pathology. The department has Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) Residency Programs in General Practice, Pediatric Dentistry, and Oral Surgery.

Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership:

• Maintain an active surgical practice across OBH campuses, providing comprehensive oral and maxillofacial surgical care including dentoalveolar surgery, implant placement, management of oral pathology, facial trauma, orthognathic surgery, and head and neck oncologic procedures
• Provide 24/7 on-call surgical coverage and oversight for OMS emergencies across the OBH system
• Serve as the primary OMS consultant for complex inpatient cases, trauma activations, and interdisciplinary surgical management
• Lead quality assurance and morbidity and mortality review for the OMS division
• Ensure compliance with hospital credentialing, privileging, infection control, patient safety, and all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards
• Utilize Epic Wisdom EHR for clinical documentation, operative reporting, and care coordination

Academic & Teaching:

• Provide direct oversight and leadership of the CODA-accredited OMS Residency Program, including curriculum development, resident evaluation, and program accreditation compliance
• Recruit, mentor, and develop OMS residents and faculty
• Foster scholarly inquiry, evidence-based surgical practice, and a culture of continuous learning
• Support and promote research, publications, grant activity, case presentations, and continuing dental and medical education
• Maintain and strengthen academic affiliations with medical and dental school partners

Administrative & Strategic:

• Develop and execute a strategic vision for the OMS division aligned with OBH's system-wide priorities and the department's academic and clinical mission
• Recruit and retain high-quality OMS faculty, residents, and advanced practice providers
• Manage divisional budgets, productivity metrics, operative volume, and revenue cycle performance
• Identify opportunities for service line expansion, surgical technology investment, and program development
• Represent the OMS division on OBH Medical Staff committees, Surgical Quality Council, and system leadership forums
• Collaborate with hospital and departmental leadership on capital planning, operating room access, and perioperative strategy

Qualifications

Education:

• DDS or DMD degree from a dental school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation, required.
• MD degree a plus

Experience:

• Minimum of seven (7) years of clinical experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery, including at least three (3) years in an academic medical center or teaching hospital, required.
• Demonstrated experience in surgical leadership, faculty development, or residency program oversight, required.
• Prior experience as a program director or associate program director of a CODA-accredited OMS residency, preferred.
• Experience in a safety-net, public, or high-volume urban academic medical center, preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Track record of research, grant funding, or peer-reviewed publication
• Familiarity with Epic Wisdom or comparable enterprise EHR and surgical documentation platforms
• Understanding of New York State Medicaid, hospital-based dental billing, and surgical quality metrics
• Ability to fully utilize OBH's electronic record systems, equipment and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position

License/Certifications:

• Certificate in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery from a CODA-accredited OMS residency program, required.
• Board certification by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS), required.
• Valid New York State dental licensure (or eligibility to obtain prior to start); NY medical licensure.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications, required.

Physical Requirements:

• Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
• Position will be required to stoops, bends, lifts, carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
