Bachelor’s degree. Four years of operations experience in refuse collection and/or disposal activities or a related field, including supervisory experience, is required. Additional operations experience in refuse collection and/or disposal activities or a related field, including supervisory experience, may substitute for the required education on a year-to-year basis.
This position oversees the Trash Division of the Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) and reports directly to the Assistant Director of Collection Operations. As a senior-level leadership role, responsibilities include directing all trash collection operations across unincorporated Miami-Dade County and contracted municipalities. The Division Chief is accountable for the overall performance, efficiency, and reliability of trash collection services, including bulky waste pickup, illegal dumping response, recycling support activities, and operations at Trash and Recycling Centers (TRCs). The role also oversees routing, workforce management, fleet utilization, and budget administration for a large-scale, highly visible public service operation.
