POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Manager of Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion (DEAI) will lead the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium’s efforts to foster a diverse, equitable, accessible, and inclusive environment both internally and externally. This role is key in cultivating a positive organizational culture, organizing DEAI educational events, establishing diverse recruitment sources, coordinating DEAI training, managing risks, providing coaching, and engaging with the community. The Manager will collaborate closely with leadership and staff across all departments to develop and implement strategies that enhance employee engagement and inclusion, while supporting the Zoo & Aquarium's broader role in the communities it serves.

POSITION DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Leads DEAI strategies, including, but not limited to:

  • Defining the DEAI roadmap and engaging key stakeholders across the organization, including communications, HR and business leaders.
  • Making recommendations on strategies, objectives, plans and policies to build a socially responsible culture of diversity, equity, inclusion.
  • Staying at the forefront of the diversity and inclusion external landscape, remaining up to date on emerging topics.
  • Managing the design and initiatives of the DEAI roadmap, acting as a project manager and the subject matter expert.
  • Utilizing workforce data to inform and monitor strategic initiatives.
  • Monitoring public regulatory/policy changes and local advocacy trends.
  • Overseeing negotiation and implementation of contract with third-party consultants for training(s).

Provides DEAI support and guidance to all key stakeholders, including, but not limited to:

  • Partnering with the HR Leadership Team to incorporate practices and processes that embed DEAI into all aspects of the employee and volunteer life cycle (recruitment, selection, onboarding, performance management, development, mobility, retention and engagement), while supporting the development of DEAI experience across the HR team.
  • Partnering with the marketing team to drive communications efforts related to DEAI both internally and externally.
  • Providing coaching, advice and expertise on matters relating to diversity and inclusion.
  • Providing leadership to the DEAI Committees, both internal and the FOTZ Board of Directors, guiding their impact and collaboration in the organization.
  • Leading Employee Resource Group program by providing coordinated tools, resources, guidance and thought leadership to increase DEAI impact.

Supports the Human Resources Department by leading recruitment efforts for all paid and non-paid positions, including:

  • Driving the recruitment cycle for all paid and non-paid positions and representing the Zoo & Aquarium at recruitment events.
  • Supporting the Zoo & Aquarium’s Diversity and Inclusion initiatives to attract and retain a diverse workforce and volunteer programs.
  • Partnering with departments to ensure representation within the community.
  • Organizing and maintaining recruiting materials and collateral.

Assists the Human Resources department with various tasks as needed, serving as a backup to ensure vital responsibilities may be performed in case of absence.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • EDUCATION & FORMAL TRAINING:
    Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred.
  • EXPERIENCE:
    3-5 years’ experience leading or involved in DEAI programs strongly preferred.
    Experience in advancing diversity, inclusion and multiculturalism within a complex organization across the employee and volunteer life cycle desired.
    Experience supporting company-wide change initiatives with multiple stakeholders.
    Ability to represent the company in a professional and positive manner.
    Strong communication and relationship building skills with the ability to influence and deliver through others.
    Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
    Highly motivated with ability to work with significant autonomy.
    Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, required.
    Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
    Must have valid driver’s license.
    Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and evening hours, in all weather extremes.
    Must pass a background and drug screening.
