Overview

The Dive Safety Coordinator is responsible for promoting safety and health management throughout the organization by developing and reinforcing best practice operating procedures within the Dive Construction Business Unit (DCBU). The coordinator will collaborate with the DCBU Management Team to ensure the safety and well-being of personnel involved in DCBU activities and will work closely with the Safety Training Manager to develop and deliver relevant training programs.

Role and Responsibilities

  1. Assist in developing and implementing dive, construction, and maritime safety programs and policies.
  2. Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to diving, construction, and maritime safety.
  3. Conduct thorough risk assessments for DCBU operations.
  4. Identify potential hazards and develop mitigation strategies.
  5. Stay updated on industry regulations and standards related to diving, construction, and maritime safety.
  6. Ensure all DCBU activities comply with local, national, and international regulations where applicable.
  7. Communicate safety protocols effectively with project managers, dive teams, and stakeholders.
  8. Collaborate with other safety professionals to integrate diving, construction, and maritime safety into broader safety initiatives.
  9. Investigate incidents and near misses thoroughly.
  10. Implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence of incidents.
  11. Maintain detailed records of dive operations, safety procedures, equipment inspections, and incident reports.
  12. Analyze safety data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  13. Establish and enforce medical fitness standards for divers in coordination with stakeholders.
  14. Develop and implement emergency response plans for diving incidents.
  15. Conduct drills and exercises to ensure team preparedness for emergencies.
  16. Coordinate and deliver training for dive personnel in collaboration with the Safety Training Team.
  17. Ensure personnel involved in diving hold necessary certifications and qualifications.
  18. Support inspection and maintenance of diving equipment to meet safety standards.
  19. Regularly review and update dive safety procedures based on lessons learned and industry changes.
  20. Seek continuous improvement opportunities in diving safety practices.
  21. Participate in job site kickoffs, visits, and safety audits per company and client standards.
  22. Conduct safety and compliance assessments at jobsites.
  23. Participate in safety meetings and represent the company in industry and client safety forums.
  24. Engage with third parties, including insurance brokers and providers, regarding safety matters.

Compensation and Benefits

Annual base salary in Seattle, WA: $70,000 - $85,000, with actual offer based on skills and experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, FSA, long-term and short-term coverage, EAP, 401(k) with match, and PTO accrual.

Qualifications and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHST, or OHST.
  • 3-5 years of dive or marine safety experience; 5-8 years if no degree.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Experience and Skills

  • Willingness to travel to project sites and regional offices.
  • Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies.
  • Knowledge of dive equipment requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic office applications.
  • Understanding of relevant regulations (ADCI, USCG, OSHA, NFPA, DOT, EPA).
  • Strong communication skills in English.

Additional Skills

  • Ability to work cross-functionally and independently.
  • Self-motivated with proactive issue identification and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of Worker’s Compensation, USL&H, and Jones Act Claims.
  • Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis.
