Job summary

Juneau School District seeks a District Sponsored Teacher for the Apprentice Program in Juneau, Alaska. The successful candidate will work with a mentor teacher to develop instructional skills while pursuing full teacher certification. This role targets educators currently enrolled in or entering a teacher preparation program.

The apprentice will contribute to a dynamic school team, use varied assessments to monitor progress, and commit to two years of service after apprenticeship completion.

Qualifications

• Requires enrollment in a teacher certification program (Apprentice Teachers will enroll in the University of Alaska Fairbanks).
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with colleagues in multiple instructional settings.
• Must hold or be able to obtain an Alaska teaching license and maintain apprenticeship status.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with a mentor teacher to plan, deliver, and reflect on classroom instruction.
• Maintain active enrollment and progress in education coursework through UAF.
• Track progress and submit documentation to DEED to maintain apprenticeship status.
• Support diverse students with varied teaching strategies and maintain a positive learning environment.
