Job summary

Jemez Mountain School District 53 is seeking a Special Education Teacher for district-wide placement in Gallina, NM. The role reports to the Special Education Director and requires NM SPED certification and immediate availability.

Responsibilities include overseeing the SPED process from screening to placement, ensuring IDEA compliance, and coordinating with principals and staff to integrate students into regular classes when appropriate.

Qualifications

• Must pass a background check.
• Current state of New Mexico teaching certificate in Special Education.
• Must be able to start immediately.

• Demonstrated team-building skills.
• Knowledge of the Special Education process and laws.
• Excellent organizational, oral and written skills, time management, and telephone skills.
• Computer skills and knowledge of assistive technology are desired.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the special education process from screening through identification, IEP development, and assist in providing appropriate identification and placement of students with disabilities.
• Assist in the implementation of IDEA in accordance with district policies and procedures.
• Organize and ensure completion of all evaluation reports and IEPs.
• Review all special education IEP documents for compliance; identify areas of need and develop programs.
• Perform and monitor information on new students, evaluations and timelines to ensure placement and programming.
• Work with principals and team members to integrate all students into regular classes as appropriate.
• Assist the Director of Special Services in researching and implementing new program components.
• Assist in preparation of federal, state and local reports on special education.
• Provide in-service training to special education instructors; assist mainstream teachers with inclusion.
• Attend meetings and training sessions related to special education.
• Maintain confidentiality and non-judgmental views of children and families served.
• Performs any other duties as directed by the Director of Special Services or Superintendent.
