SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER, NORTHEAST MIDDLE SCHOOL, 6TH GRADE (2025 - 2026 SY)

DEPARTMENT: TEACHER

POSITION TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER, NORTHEAST MIDDLE SCHOOL, 6TH GRADE (2025 - 2026 SY)

REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL SERVICES / SUPERVISOR OF SPECIAL SERVICES

Summary

To provide an innovative and creative learning environment which fosters students’ individual growth and development in all program areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement academic and clinical IEP goals through continuous assessment of each student.
  • Develop and implement an integrated curriculum by sharing ideas, materials, and methods with colleagues.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter in areas of specialization.
  • Plan daily lessons with varied learning experiences and multi-modality approaches.
  • Develop and implement behavior management programs.
  • Maintain student records and submit reports timely.
  • Collaborate with teachers across disciplines and communicate with parents.
  • Perform educational testing and evaluations.
  • Participate in a transdisciplinary model and staff development activities.
  • Implement individual education programs for students with special needs.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises classroom aides, volunteers, and parent helpers as appropriate.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s for some positions).
  • Valid Connecticut Teaching Certificate, 165 Comprehensive Special Education, K-12.
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and communicate effectively.
  • Proficiency in basic math, computer skills, and problem-solving.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills.
Physical Demands & Work Environment

Includes standing, talking, occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, and working indoors and outdoors with moderate to loud noise levels.
