Job summary

Hawaii State Department of Education is seeking a District Educational Specialist II under the Educational Officers' Bargaining Unit. The role reports to the Complex Area Superintendent of the West Hawaii Complex and is a limited term probationary vice appointment.

Responsibilities include overseeing special education programs across West and North Hawaii, staff development, and program evaluation, with extensive interaction with schools, parents, and agencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education.
• Six years of responsible work experience in education, including four years in teaching and two in curriculum or program services.
• Teaching experience with students with disabilities preferred; experience in program development/supervision is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates, monitors and assists in evaluating special education programs in West and North Hawaii districts.
• Analyzes staffing projections and plans budget and program emphasis; coordinates services and transportation for eligible students.
• Leads in-service training for staff and parents; supervises Special Education personnel and coordinators.
• Maintains data records, prepares reports, and liaises with state office, district offices, agencies, and parents.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
