District Sales Manager (Northern California) – Indian Motorcycle & Slingshot
The Retail Experience Manager (internal business title for DSM) is responsible for the in-store execution of the motorcycle division’s go-to-market plans as well as growing both Motorcycle unit sales and parts, garments and accessories (PG&A) business within the assigned territory (Northern California, Nevada and Idaho). Through strategic partnerships with business units, Dealer Demand team and dealers, the REM is responsible for driving customer satisfaction, and dealer and business unit profitability by delivering Motorcycle unit sales, PG&A revenue and stocking goals. The REM will also be responsible for in-store retail experience, including merchandising of whole good units, branded accessories, and apparel. The candidate would be located within 60 miles of Sacramento to maximize proximity to dealer network.
Responsibilities
- Retail: Works with dealerships to identify opportunity gaps using Key Performance Indicators and implements corrective measures to eliminate constraints in the dealer’s sales process.
- Parts, Garments, Accessories Performance: Meets division stocking and inventory goals of branded parts, garments and accessories, including stocking and minimizing obsolete inventory; ensures in-store and online sales processes to maximize PG&A profitability; solicits and maintains compliance of PG&A stocking profiles; optimizes the buying experience through robust PG&A merchandising; develops and executes PG&A retail plans.
- In Store Retail Experience: Leads showroom merchandising and accessorizing strategies to improve the overall retail experience; communicates merchandising successes, opportunities, and solutions to sales leadership and PG&A teams to drive results; drives sales and profitability through proper merchandising and presentation of motorcycles and PG&A within assigned dealerships; implements a PG&A sales process integrated with the new unit sales process; ensures product displays are set timely and correctly based on merchandising fundamentals and planograms; works with dealers to maintain proper inventory through appropriate stocking profiles; directs dealers to proper resources and escalates issues with win/win solutions.
- Customer Experience: Leads customer-first mindset across the assigned dealer network; reviews customer satisfaction measurement tools and KPIs to understand strengths and opportunities; implements corrective and preventative procedures in store to ensure positive customer experience and dealer ratings.
- Train: Delivers training to dealer sales staff in critical areas of sales process and product knowledge; delivers training to improve dealer customer satisfaction; ensures dealer staff is current on required training modules.
- Audit: Protects and grows share of store by managing floor, wall and displays for each motorcycle brand; confirms proper point of purchase materials set in store and online; sells-in and monitors division branding requirements.
- Event Support: Supports motorcycle field sales, events, and marketing teams in planning and on-site execution of national, regional, and local sales events; enhances customer experience at events with consistent, professional representation of Indian Motorcycle and Slingshot brands.
- Brand Advocate: Cultivates positive relationships with dealership teams; maintains front-of-mind brand awareness and brand loyalty.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related field strongly preferred
- 2-3 years of business and/or retail experience required; Business to Business sales and Powersports industry experience preferred
- Strong ability to influence decision-making and construct a business case to accomplish goals
- Working knowledge of dealer systems and processes and merchandising within a retail operation; ideally within a 2-tier distribution model
- Ability to apply value selling principles and win through influencing
- Understanding, appreciation, and passion for the motorcycle industry
- Proficient in MS Office
- Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing
- Commitment to customer service through relationship building and meeting commitments
- Ability to work semi-independently while taking direction from manager and senior team members, and to communicate improvement recommendations
Working Conditions
- Willing to reside in the territory; preferred location within 60 miles of Sacramento, CA; alternative locations in Northern California may be discussed
- Extensive daily travel within a territory up to 80%
- Monthly travel with up to eight or more overnights
- Monthly travel to dealerships located in Northern California, Nevada and Idaho
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds; frequent bending, twisting, stooping, reaching, and lifting
- Stand on a cement floor for long periods; some travel to remote locations and Polaris corporate locations may be required
- Work from home office with support from corporate location
Compensation & Benefits
The pay range for California is $66,000 to $87,000 per year. Individual salaries are determined by factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography. This role is eligible for variable compensation paid monthly and quarterly, and an annual bonus program based on company, district, and individual performance. Polaris offers a comprehensive benefits package and a profit-sharing plan; employees may participate in an Employee Stock Ownership Plan and a 401(k) with matching contributions.
