The job of Physical Therapist is done for the purpose/s of functioning as a member of a multidisciplinary team who provide appropriate educational programs for students with disabilities; assessing students' physical development level; planning, implementing and providing appropriate treatment to meet individualized student objectives; collaborating with educational personnel, family, and community agencies regarding program planning for identified students; providing recommendations for program development and student placement; and providing direction to assigned interns, practicum students, and school support personnel.
Essential FunctionsAdministers physical therapy procedures for the purpose of achieving program objectives which may differ site to site under the district's "school choice" model in support of established local protocols.
Assesses students' functional abilities and physical/motor disabilities (e.g. motor coordination, sensory development, muscle strength, etc.) for the purpose of determining program needs and developing recommendations for treatment, appropriate assistive device/equipment, and/or school placement.
Collaborates with a variety of individuals and/or groups (e.g. students, parents, teachers, physicians, administration, maintenance personnel, multidisciplinary team members, other professional, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information, resolving issues and providing services in compliance with established guidelines.
Consults with parents, teachers, other personnel and/or outside professionals for the purpose of providing requested information, developing plans for services, making recommendations and/or coordinating physical therapy services.
Develops treatment plans, interventions and/or educational materials (e.g. direct and indirect services, schedules, etc.) for the purpose of remediating students' physical functionality deficits and ensuring compliance with physical therapy program and regulatory requirements.
Directs assigned individuals (e.g. interns, practicum students, education support specialists, etc.) for the purpose of providing guidance, monitoring performance, providing for professional growth, achieving overall objectives of school's curriculum, and ensuring program objectives are achieved with established guidelines under all local/state/federal legal restrictions.
Identifies structural issues for the purpose of removing barriers for students with physical limitations and/or identifying appropriate assistive technology.
Instructs students and staff for the purpose of providing information on medical attributes, use of assistive device/equipment and/or implementing plans for remediation of functional limitations.
Interprets medical reports for the purpose of providing information and/or ensuring that treatment/intervention plans are appropriate.
Maintains files, evaluations, and records (e.g. progress reports, evaluation reports, activity logs, billing information, treatment plans, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of information as required for reference and/or compliance.
Observes students physical and/or motor disabilities (e.g. interpret assessment results, plan intervention services, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring support from preschool through age twenty-one during transitionary events from one district or community program to the next.
Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars (e.g. training, IEPs, multidisciplinary team meetings, professional development, etc.) for the purpose of planning, conveying and/or gathering information for the creations of educationally relevant goals and objectives for students with physical therapy needs.
Performs site visits (e.g. multiple work sites; home visits as assigned, etc.) for the purpose of providing direct therapy interventions and assistance as required by district, state and federal regulations.
Prepares a wide variety of written materials including pre and post-student evaluations (e.g. activity logs, correspondence, memos, treatment plans, progress notes, Medicaid billings, reports, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, education plans, providing written reference, and/or conveying information in support of student, parents/guardians, and district guidelines.
Researches resources and methods (e.g. intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students' functional goals.
Responds to inquiries (e.g. parents, teachers, staff, students, community programs, etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or referral as appropriate in support of student educational goals.
Transports supplies and equipment to a variety of sites for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items as needed.
Education:Master's Degree in Physical Therapist
Certification/License:Physical Therapy License through the Wyoming State Board of Physical Therapy
