The NC Forest Service provides services to the 100 counties in North Carolina. The primary job functions of this position are:
Environmental exposures are adverse weather, forest pests, hunters, intense heat, dust and smoke. Work hours are typically 8-5, Mon-Fri. Some work functions require evening, holiday and/or weekend work. Wildfire & disaster/emergency response functions require readiness 24/7. Some overnight travel required for emergency response and/or training. Residency will be discussed at the time of interview.

Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training or employer sponsored training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Pre-employment drug testing is required for this position.
Recruitment Range: $35,596 - $62,294
Knowledge of OSHA and safety regulations including shop and, equipment safety. Experience using various mechanical, electrical and computer systems. Ability to do heavy lifting and pulling when required as related to mechanical duties. Experience in repair and maintenance of automotive or heavy equipment: welding and fabrication, automotive painting and operation of heavy equipment. Basic computer skills, i.e. email, internet, data base.
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma or a sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience in the repair work to which assigned; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F.
