Job summary

Advance Auto Parts is seeking a District Manager to lead multiple stores, grow both Retail and Commercial market share, and deliver sales and profitability while guiding General Managers and Core 4 staff. You will recruit, coach, and develop store leaders, ensure staffing, and drive operational excellence across a dynamic district.

Ideal candidates bring 3–5 years of multi-unit retail leadership, strong P&L understanding, and ASE-experience or equivalent.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years managing a team of 10–20 GMs in a fast-paced retail setting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related area preferred.
  • Experience supervising 10–30 frontline staff across multi-unit operations.
  • Strong financial acumen; ability to drive profitability.
  • ASE certification preferred but not required.

  • Achieve district total sales and profitability goals.
  • Develop and retain General Managers and Core 4 staff.
  • Staffing and scheduling across the district.
  • Conduct regular store visits and provide action plans.
  • Review P&L with GMs and coach the team.

Job DescriptionWhat is a District Manager?A District Manager is the senior leader in the district. The District Manager must be knowledgeable of all facets of store operations in order to successfully grow Retail and Commercial market share. Each District Manager must be committed to leading and inspiring our team, helping our DIY and Commercial customers succeed, while growing sales and profitability with integrity.Primary ResponsibilitiesAchieve or exceed district total sales and profitability goalsEnsure commercial customer retention & relationship growth in the marketSelection, hiring, development, goal setting, performance mgmt., coaching, engagement and retention of General Managers and Core 4 team membersEnsure proper staffing levels throughout the districtEnsure execution of all inventory & operational standards within the districtConduct regular store visits providing action plans to achieve full market potential.Teach business acumen by review of profit and loss statement with GM'sCommunicate effectively and appropriately to stores and support staffEmbrace diversity and foster a respectful environment for both customers and team membersSecondary ResponsibilitiesAssist region/area in other functions upon requestSuccess FactorsKnowledge of store operations and processesASE P2 certified or ASE ready equivalentAbility to recruit, select, hire and develop quality General Managers and ensure same for Core 4 positionsAccountability, coaching & feedback skillsAbility to execute and train all store operational processes, procedures and team member/customer standardsAbility to use and train, testing and diagnostic equipment for DIY servicesEffectively use Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint computer programsEssential Job Skills Necessary for Success as a District ManagerWorking knowledge of automotive systems preferredSpeak and write English (Spanish a plus); communicate effectively and build strong relationships with customers, peers and upper managementUse Microsoft software effectively (Word, Excel required, PowerPoint preferred)Use basic math accurately: add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimalsPerform calculations such as Gross Margin and understand financial documents, such as Profit and Loss Statements (P&L), invoices, etc.Ability to fully understand all facets of the business and excel in an integrated operating model (including DIY, Commercial, PDQ and Hub operations)Define problems, collect information, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and effectively resolve issues independentlyThink strategically, analyze issues and options, and effectively manage and facilitate changeEffectively delegate and supervise projects to ensure timely and quality executionAbility to work an assortment of days, evenings, and weekends as neededPrior Experience that Sets a District Manager up for Success3-5 years of experience managing a team of 10- 20 General Managers who supervise from 10-30 Team Members in a fast-paced and highly dynamic retail environmentProven track record in meeting sales and gross margin targets in a multi-unit environmentSuccessful experience managing profitability; proven financial and business acumenEducationHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED) Bachelor’s degree in business or a related area preferredCertificates, Licenses, RegistrationsMust have a valid driver's licenseASE certification preferred, but not requiredPhysical DemandsThe physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
