Job summary

Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District invites applications for a District Librarian at HOLMSLEY & METCALF Elementary. Immediate start, full-time, 188-day probationary/term contract with a starting salary of $64,550.

The ideal candidate will hold a master’s degree or higher, Texas librarian certification, and demonstrate leadership in library media services, collaboration, and strong organizational and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate.
  • Two years of successful experience as a classroom teacher or school librarian.
  • Texas Learning Resources Specialist or equivalent certificate.
  • Proven leadership in library media services and instructional skills.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of library and information science.

Responsibilities

  • Works cooperatively with district librarians to ensure a cohesive K-12 library program.
  • Operates and supervises multiple libraries and maintains library budget records.
  • Evaluates, selects, and orders instructional materials and digital resources.
  • Provides reference service and readers’ advisory.
  • Maintains cataloging, circulation, and storage systems for materials.
  • Trains and supervises library staff and volunteers.
  • Schedules library use to maximize access to resources.
  • Teaches research skills and information literacy to students and staff.
  • Collaborates with staff and librarians on resource selection and tech use.
  • Keeps stakeholders informed of library program goals and activities.

Qualifications

  • Ability to instruct and work with students.
Essential Functions

Administrative Leadership

  • Works cooperatively with other school librarians in the district to assure a cohesive K‑12 Library program.
  • Operates and supervises multiple libraries with varied support.
  • Prepares, administers, and maintains accurate records related to the library budget.
  • Evaluates, selects and orders new instructional materials, digital resources, equipment, and furniture for the library.
  • Provides reference service and readers’ advisory.
  • Maintains an efficient system for cataloging, circulation, retrieval, maintenance and storage of library materials.
  • Trains and supervises all library staff and library volunteers in the performance of their duties.
  • Arranges for inter‑library loan of materials.
  • Schedules use of the library for maximum accessibility to equipment, digital resources, print materials, and library space.
  • Weeds materials from the collection according to the district library policy.
  • Maintains accurate records of the library’s holdings and statistics, as needed.
  • Creates an appropriate climate in the library that reflects the philosophy of the school and district.
  • Participates actively in professional library organizations.
  • Sustains knowledge of current literature, as related to the library patrons, as well as the professional library.

Teaching

  • Provides orientation programs.
  • Provides formal and informal instruction of library resources for students and staff.
  • Encourages the love of reading through book talks, reading incentives, etc.
  • Assists students in the selection of library resources.
  • Teaches research skills and inquiry methods to students and staff through whole‑group instruction and/or individually.
  • Promotes the critical role of information literacy and essential skills needed for a 21st‑century learner.

Collaboration

  • Collaborates with staff for effective use of library services, resources, and facilities.
  • Assists staff and students in the use of technology.
  • Works cooperatively with staff on the selection of instructional resources.
  • Collaborates with other librarians as needed.

Public Relations

  • Keeps principal, staff, students and parents informed of library program goals, objectives, and resources.
  • Schedules library programs to enrich students’ literary experiences (e.g., author/illustrator visits, storytellers, book fairs, book clubs).
  • Creates and maintains a positive and welcoming climate in the library.
Working Conditions

Mental and physical demands: maintain emotional control under stress; frequent standing, stooping and bending; lifting, pulling, and pushing moderate to heavy loads.
