Job summary

WM is seeking an experienced Fleet Maintenance Manager to oversee the full fleet of primary and secondary equipment in the San Jose area. The role emphasizes cost control, asset management, preventive maintenance, and strong leadership to ensure safe and reliable operations.

The position requires extensive experience in diesel and heavy equipment maintenance, staff development, and adherence to corporate safety regulations. A bachelor’s degree and a valid driver's license are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 4 years relevant experience
• 5 years previous experience in the role
• Valid driver's license upon hire
• Preferred: Diesel technician experience
• Experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment (yellow iron) such as Caterpillar/John Deere/Komatsu
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine issues across a diverse fleet

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe, reliable vehicles are available to meet operational needs
• Manage maintenance managers for performance and cost focus
• Review capital equipment requisitions per guidelines
• Utilize vehicle assets effectively
• Ensure maintenance shops are staffed and trained
• Comply with WM's safety standards and regulations
• Support budget processes and administrative tasks
• Develop staff and foster a positive team environment
• Maintain maintenance shops and preventive maintenance programs
• Oversee department personnel including hiring and coaching
• Provide training and presentations as needed
