Location: Remote and based in the New England area

Salary: $100,000 - $110,000

Job Summary

Chartwells Higher Ed is hiring a District Finance Manager responsible for leading accounting and finance activities for universities in the New England area supported by Chartwells. You will assist the Director of Finance with all regional financial operations, ensuring accuracy, internal controls, financial analysis, and strategic planning. This role is based in New England with an expected 10% travel within the region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure all accounting activities within the District are performed accurately and completely
  • Maintain strict internal controls to safeguard assets, including cash, inventory, and accounts receivable
  • Perform reconciliations and analysis for balance sheet accounts and resolve discrepancies
  • Analyze financial results and KPIs for internal and external use
  • Understand contractual financial terms and ensure compliance
  • Develop forecasts and budgets, identifying risks and opportunities
  • Review weekly general ledger activity and prepare corrections as needed
  • Assist in building proformas for new business and account retention
  • Prepare financial reports monthly, quarterly, and annually
  • Train, mentor, and develop accounting and clerical staff; provide financial guidance to operational managers
  • Prepare and present financial summaries for leadership and clients
  • Perform related duties and special projects as assigned

Travel required at 10%.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (strongly preferred)
  • Food service accounting experience (preferred)
  • Minimum five years of hands-on experience
  • Experience supporting operations (strongly preferred)
  • Strong Excel skills for analytics
  • Ability to prepare key metrics, budgets, forecasts, cash flow analyses
  • Proven teamwork and client support skills
  • Excellent communication skills to explain financial principles at all management levels
  • Ability to plan, organize, and control complex processes; prepare financial models
  • Experience with POS, cash, and credit card reports
  • Skilled at managing multiple priorities and relationships
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • High standards of integrity and ethics
  • Must reside in New England within 2-3 hours of main accounts
