Position Summary:
The District Chef position provides hands-on culinary leadership while promoting safe food handling, efficient production practices, portion control, cost management, and compliance with applicable health and food-service regulations. The District Chef serves as a culinary resource for school nutrition staff and helps establish a positive food culture that encourages students to enjoy nutritious meals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Include but are not limited to:
- Collaborate with a team to include the Director, to implement Maschio's scratch cooking initiative, while providing a front-line hands-on approach for culinary resources.
- Support a team of associates and oversee all safety and sanitation as it pertains to the account.
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly trainings with tram members in safety, cooking techniques and food presentation.
- Creates student menus that are cost effective, and nutritionally balanced. Collaborating these ideas with Maschio's Chef and Nutrition Teams.
- Plans and executes all Chef Day demonstrations throughout the school district.
- Plans and executes all catering events within the school district, Writing the menu, costing the event, ordering product, prepping and cooking.
- Assess client preferences through Food Advisory Meetings, industry trends and current research to plan menus that courage participation in the Nat6ional School Lunch Program (NSLP).
- Place food and supply orders that meet the needs of the school district while maintaining budgetary cost and control measures.
- Organize, maintain, and submit reports as directed that are in compliance with Maschio's standard procedures, in addition to State and Federal guidelines.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to lead, coach, train, and develop foodservice employees.
- Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced operational environment and respond effectively to changing priorities.
- Must have experience in catering events.
Preferred:
- Experience working within the K–12 school nutrition environment and/or USDA National School Lunch Program (NSLP) strongly preferred.
Essential Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to sit or stand in a stationary position.
- Ability to bend and lift up to 40lbs as needed to move objects.
- This is a full-time position, working in a school cafeteria typically scheduled Monday through Friday, with hours aligned to the needs of the business. Occasional nights and weekends
