Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Supervise tank farm operations including rail car unloading, chemical storage and transfer of chemicals to production.
  • Ensure outbound shipments to the finishing plants are ready and shipped as required.
  • Make sure raw materials are available in sufficient quantities to support production requirements by scheduling deliveries to meet actual needs.
  • Monitor the accuracy of semi-finished raw material and storeroom inventories.
  • Manage the storeroom to ensure it operates efficiently with enough spare parts and supplies.
  • Ensure inbound materials are received and recorded accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Stay abreast of DOT shipping rules and regulations including hazardous materials.
  • Supervise employees in the area of work safety and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the Materials department payroll and attendance, approval for purchase orders pertaining to shipping and receiving, employee paperwork and filing etc.
  • Attend and participate in weekly waste meetings to report on customer issues and address distribution/production scheduling concerns.
  • Conduct monthly inventory of raw materials and production supplies and schedule deliveries.
  • Perform monthly safety and housekeeping audits for the distribution area and correct deficiencies.
  • Conduct inspections of tank storage vessels as required by SPCC.
  • Host a work order meeting with Maintenance supervisors to review work orders and status of repairs.
  • Perform forklift training and licensing for all Material Handlers, Service Operators, Maintenance personnel and others.
  • Conduct department safety meetings.
  • Backup for the Materials and Purchasing Manager in purchasing to execute POs and contracts.
  • Leads the department in compliance with all food safety requirements.

POSITION PURPOSE: Summarize the primary purpose of the job

To ensure the tank farm, storeroom and material areas are run safely, with quality and cost efficiency in mind along with accuracy e.g. storeroom inventory, shipping manifests etc.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: Describe major job responsibilities beginning with the most important.


  • Supervise tank farm operations including rail car unloading, chemical storage and transfer of chemicals to production

  • Ensure outbound shipments to the finishing plants are ready and shipped as required

  • Make sure raw materials are available in sufficient quantities to support production requirements by scheduling deliveries to meet actual needs. Order major raw materials under guidance of Manager and other materials and supplies as directed.

  • Monitor the accuracy of semi-finished raw material and storeroom inventories

  • Manage the storeroom to ensure storeroom is operating efficiently with enough spare parts and operating supplies to support production and maintenance

  • Ensure inbound materials are received and recorded accurately and in a timely manner

  • Stay abreast of DOT shipping rules and regulations including hazardous materials

  • Supervise employees in the area of work safety and in accordance with company policies and procedures

  • Responsible for the Materials department payroll and attendance, approval for purchase orders pertaining to shipping and receiving, employee paperwork and filing etc.

  • Attend and participate in the weekly waste meeting to report on current customer issues and complaints and address issues raised pertaining to distribution and / or production scheduling

  • Conduct monthly inventory of raw materials and production supplies, and schedule deliveries of materials and supplies

  • Conduct inspections of tank storage vessels as required by Spill Prevention Control and Count Measure (SPCC)

  • Host a work order meeting with Maintenance supervisors to review work orders issued / requested and to check the status of repairs needed for shipping and receiving and tank farm areas

  • Perform forklift training and licensing for all Material Handlers, Service Operators, Maintenance personnel and other classification that may become necessary

  • Conduct department safety meetings

  • Backup for the Materials and Purchasing Manager in purchasing to execute PO's, contracts etc.

  • Leads the efforts of the department in the compliance with all food safety requirement.


JOB REQUIREMENTS: Indicate years of experience in the discipline or function, education level required and any certifications or licenses.


  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics along with five (5) years relevant experience or equivalent

  • 5 to 8 years of logistics, warehouse and storeroom experience to include knowledge and use of MRP, transportation (rail, motor carrier and sea) and exportation legal requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated positive leadership organization and interpersonal skills

  • Proficient PC skills with MS Office, SAP and Maximo

  • Strong analytical skills
