Job summary

ENTRUST Solutions Group in the United States is seeking a Distribution Planning Engineer to upgrade and optimize power distribution systems. You will perform protection and coordination studies, model distribution networks, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

The role involves load forecasting, DER and energy storage considerations, and mentoring junior engineers. Remote, hybrid, and in-office options are available, with travel up to 10% for client support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 2+ years of experience in electric utility.
• Proficiency in CYME Dist, CYMTCC, Synergi, Milsoft Windmil or ASPEN One.
• Experience with grid planning challenges such as protection and control, DER, system impact studies, arc flash analysis, energy storage.
• Ability to travel up to 10% to support clients.
• EIT/FE and PE highly desirable.
• Knowledge of arc flash analysis and Standards such as IEEE 1584, NFPA 70E.
• Proficiency in data analysis tools within Excel, Python or similar.
• Fundamentals of Protective Device Coordination and TCC review.

Responsibilities

• Perform protection and coordination studies for distribution systems.
• Identify and resolve issues involving substations and feeders.
• Conduct scenario-based planning studies to recommend effective solutions.
• Develop medium- and long-range distribution plans focusing on load relief, capacity, and reliability.
• Create and maintain computer models and databases for electric distribution systems.
• Conduct load forecasts including DER and energy storage.
• Collaborate with transmission, substation, distribution design, and SCADA Automation teams.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and foster continuous learning.
