Job summary

River City Construction is seeking an experienced Overhead 1st Class worker for the New Bern, NC area. The role involves constructing and maintaining electrical overhead distribution systems at multiple sites, with possible travel to other states as needed.

You will lead crews, install poles, transformers, crossarms and switches, and troubleshoot primary and secondary circuits. The position demands high physical effort and strict safety adherence in outdoor conditions.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3-5 years of recent field experience.
• Ability to travel to multiple locations.
• Lift more than 50 lbs.
• Knowledge of inspecting rubber goods and PPE.
• Willing to work overtime.
• Willingness to glove/work live high voltage power lines.

Responsibilities

• Lead crew members in the absence of the Foreman.
• Set poles and anchors.
• Install transformers, lightening arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear.
• Troubleshoot trouble in primary and secondary systems.
• Replace cutout fuses and clear faulted circuits and systems.
• Frequently work with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.
• Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
• Perform rigorous physical labor.
• Can identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit.
• Must be familiar with induced voltage.
• Understand grounding procedures.
• Work at heights or confined spaces.
• Install and remove PPE and cover up.
• Must be able to climb different types of structures (wood, steel) and have the necessary tools to do so.
• Must understand how to phase out a line using phasing sticks.
• Plan safe work based on a job print or work order.
• Understand how to obtain a one shot on a recloser.
• Can conduct a pre-job or tailgate briefing.
• Can safely perform a reconductoring job.
• Safely install and remove mechanical jumpers.
• Understand how to use a load bust tool.
• Does all other related work to complete the job.
• Can work outside, frequently in inclement weather conditions.

Position Purpose:
