Job summary

CORT is seeking a Distribution Manager in Capitol Heights, MD to lead onsite warehouse operations and daily workflows. This role oversees residential and commercial furniture movements, labor planning, and safety compliance within the distribution center.

You will manage teams, coordinate with service centers, and drive KPI performance while ensuring efficient scheduling and cost control.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; college degree preferred.
• 3-5 years of experience in warehouse or distribution management.
• Experience managing associates and providing coaching.
• Experience managing inventory control.
• Strong understanding of safety and compliance standards.
• Physically able to move furniture and lift 100+ pounds with a partner.

Responsibilities

• Daily Operational Planning: plan and adjust daily workload for warehouse teams to meet demands, audits, cycle counts, and safety compliance.
• Routing, Scheduling & Dispatching: schedule deliveries and labor hours, ensure routing KPIs.
• Team Leadership: coach, train, and motivate staff with performance feedback.
• Interviewing and Onboarding: support recruitment and training of warehouse personnel.
• Inventory and Asset Management: oversee accuracy and movement of goods.
• Budgeting, Forecasting and Cost Control: monitor costs and forecast to meet EBIT goals.
• Safety and Compliance: leads safety initiatives and audits.
• Customer Service and Issue Resolution: act as escalation point for customer issues.
• Administrative Duties: payroll and reporting; track KPIs.
• Project Management: lead warehouse improvement projects.

Overview

CORT Furniture Rental is hiring a full-time Distribution Manager in Capitol Heights, MD. The Distribution Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of warehouse operations (work and people) inside the facility and overseeing the warehouse managers on the receiving and outbound. This includes managing daily workflows, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, optimizing labor and delivery schedules, and driving operational efficiency.

This is an onsite position performed from the CORT distribution center.

Salary: $80,000-$90,000 / year depending on experience.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:30AM- 4 or 4:30PM.

Responsibilities

• Daily Operational Planning: Plans and adjusts daily workload for warehouse teams to meet business demands, audits, cycle counts, and safety compliance.
• Routing, Scheduling & Dispatching: Schedules deliveries and labor hours, maintains availability, and routes trucks efficiently. Provides real-time support to service centers, delivery team, and customers. May conduct delivery pre-calls to customers. Follows up on any issues with deliveries or pickups. Ensures compliance with routing software and delivery KPIs.
• Team Leadership: Coaches, trains, and motivates staff; manages performance and fosters a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
• Interviewing and Onboarding: Participates in the recruitment, onboarding, and training of warehouse personnel. Provides ongoing coaching and performance feedback to support employee development and operational excellence.
• Inventory and Asset Management: Oversees inventory accuracy, cycle counts, and movement of goods; ensures compliance with Days in Location goals.
• Equipment Oversight: Manages warehouse equipment and safety gear. Coordinates with third-party vendors for equipment servicing.
• Budgeting, Forecasting and Cost Control: Manage and forecast warehouse and payroll costs to ensure alignment with district financial goals. Monitor daily expenditures, analyze cost trends, and implement strategies to meet or exceed monthly EBIT forecasts. Proactively plan and collaborate with leadership to maintain budget discipline and drive operational efficiency.
• Safety and Compliance: Leads safety initiatives, conducts audits, and ensures adherence to standards.
• Customer Service and Issue Resolution: Acts as escalation point for customer issues; collaborates with internal teams to ensure satisfaction.
• Administrative Duties: Manages paperwork, payroll, and reporting; uses tools to track KPIs and support decision-making.
• Project Management: Leads warehouse improvement projects, including layout optimization, rack planning, and inventory reorganization.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Interfaces with sales, asset management, and customer service teams to align operational goals.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent; college degree preferred
• 3-5 years of experience in warehouse or distribution management
• Previous experience managing associates-monitoring and assigning work and providing performance coaching
• Previous experience managing inventory control
• Strong understanding of safety, and compliance standards
• Physically able and willing to move furniture indoors, outdoors, up or down stairs and in all weather conditions; ability to lift 100+ pounds with a partner
