Distribution Journey Lineman in Louisiana

About This Role

A Journeyman Lineman at SEC has completed a 42-month approved apprenticeship or certified testing program, or has at least five years of continuous experience in substation/line construction and maintenance. They possess comprehensive knowledge of substation and line work and can work independently.

Responsibilities
  • Work as an apprentice lineman for at least 4 years in the line industry.
  • Conduct Job Task Safety Analysis (JTSA) as required.
  • Perform work on energized and de-energized distribution systems safely.
  • Install and remove cover-up materials safely.
  • String, sag, and dead-end conductors.
  • Climb poles/towers using fall protection systems.
  • Troubleshoot distribution system problems.
  • Safely dig holes near underground utilities.
  • Set and replace poles on energized systems.
  • Perform reconductor jobs safely.
  • Understand minimum approach distances.
  • Inspect rubber goods, cover materials, and PPE properly.
  • Operate digger derrick and bucket truck safely.
  • Maintain and inspect equipment and trucks.
  • Install and remove mechanical jumpers safely.
  • Identify primary and secondary voltages.
  • Follow safe heavy lifting and rigging procedures.
Qualifications
  • Willingness to relocate as needed.
  • Possession of a valid Class B commercial driver’s license may be required.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Operate conveyance machinery with tools and materials.
  • Adhere to safety policies.
  • Participate in storm restoration operations if needed.
  • Attend training for new processes and safety regulations.
  • Work independently with limited supervision.
Physical Requirements
  • Lift materials up to 60 pounds.
  • Climb wooden poles and towers.
  • Walk on uneven terrain.
  • Climb on/off trucks and equipment.
  • Work in hot and cold weather conditions.
