Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Distribution Engineer to design and review overhead and underground distribution lines from 4 kV to 69 kV in the Portland, Oregon area. The role includes developing URD, re-conductoring, asset replacement projects, and ensuring designs meet client specifications.

You will lead field testing, coordinate small design teams, provide construction support, review completed designs for quality, and mentor junior staff while applying codes and standards to complex engineering

Responsibilities

• Design and review overhead and underground distribution lines from 4 kV to 69 kV
• Develop overhead, URD, re-conductoring and asset replacement projects, and underground cable/conduit work packages
• Design complex overhead and underground distribution projects in urban and rural environments in compliance with client specifications, including field engineering, identifying conflicting utilities, and work permit development
• Develop PtP testing plans and lead field and office personnel in field testing
• Coordinate small design teams to develop budgets, scoping documents, design criteria, and project deliverables
• Provide engineering assistance during construction, attend construction meetings and coordination efforts
• Review completed designs to ensure compliance with client quality and consistency standards
• Lead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities within the group to complete substation projects
• Provide training and guidance to lower level employees
• Identify and initiate corrective action when substation project objectives are not met
• Interpret codes and regulations and develop standards for construction projects
• Promote engineering professionalism and standards
• Develop and implement plans with scheduling, resources, and information for complex engineering

Job description

The position falls within the Distribution Department of the organization. They will design and review overhead and underground distribution lines from 4 kV to 69 kV. They will engineer and design overhead, URD, re-conductoring and asset replacement projects, and underground cable/conduit distribution design work packages. They will review completed designs and design products to ensure compliance with client quality and consistency standards

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Design and review overhead and underground distribution lines from 4 kV to 69 kV
• Develop overhead, URD, re-conductoring and asset replacement projects, and underground cable/conduit work packages
• Design complex overhead and underground distribution projects in urban and rural environments in compliance with client's engineering and construction specifications, field engineering of project requirements, identification of conflicting utilities, engineering and design calculations, and work permit development Develop Point to Point (PtP) testing plans and lead field and office personnel in the field testing.
• Coordinate small design teams as needed in order to develop budgets, prepare scoping documents, design criteria, and project deliverables.
• Provide clients with engineering assistance during construction, and be available to attend construction meetings, coordination efforts and community outreach as needed.
• Review of completed designs and design products to ensure compliance with client quality and consistency standards
• Lead, facilitate, and coordinate work activities of others within the work group, team, department, or those external to complete substation projects
• Provide training and guidance to lower level employees
