Distribution Engineer 2
As a Distribution Engineer 2 at Southern California Edison, you will develop project scopes and ensure the successful progression and delivery of projects, maintaining accuracy, compliance, and timeliness. This position supports grid modernization initiatives and capacity planning efforts to enhance system reliability, reduce wildfire risk, and meet growing customer demand. You will collaborate across cross‑functional teams to prioritize and execute an integrated project portfolio, provide high‑quality engineering support for operational needs, and drive continuous improvement while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and organizational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Perform inspections and evaluations of existing conditions for various electrical equipment and systems for proper installation, problem identification/troubleshooting, and overall improvements.
- Ensure system event assessments and RCA are performed for equipment failures and implement corrective actions, confirming proper mitigation plans are in place.
- Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and design plans related to projects and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.
- Conduct independent engineering work, receiving guidance on the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Perform power system modeling and analyses utilizing software tools and applications; stay informed of technology advancements, market trends, and relevant guidelines and standards related to energy technology.
- Ensure the performance of day‑to‑day preventive maintenance activities to maintain equipment and ensure continued operation according to required standards including Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) quality and environmental and reliability standards.
- Help ensure infrastructure’s supporting processes are validated/qualified throughout their life cycle.
- Develop the engineering facility design, including but not limited to electrical system design, such as sizing, creating one‑line diagrams, and selecting equipment.
- Assist in the development of new technology and standards strategy and the implementation of strategies into business operations to improve power system functionality and quality of service to customers.
- Act as project sponsors with some technical assistance when responding to technical questions requiring project modification to move projects through their lifecycle.
- Ensure the protection of all physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets and properly manage sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a scientific/technical/math field.
- Two or more years of experience performing engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.
- Possess a valid Class C Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in power system engineering, including knowledge of applicable regulations, standards, and codes as well as power flow analysis tools such as CYME.
- Proven ability to analyze and solve complex engineering problems and make sound decisions.
- Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to audiences with varying levels of technical understanding.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating on cross‑functional teams to resolve technical challenges.
- Demonstrated experience with project management concepts and experience including planning, prioritizing, and coordinating multiple projects.
Additional Information
- This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

- The primary work location for this position is Dominguez Hills, CA. However, the successful candidate may also be asked to work for an extended amount of time at alternate work location.
- Position will require up to 25% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
- This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position – prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un‑escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
