Job summary

United Pipe & Steel in Ipswich, MA, is seeking a hands-on Warehouse Supervisor to back up the DC Manager. You will lead daily operations, focus on safety, quality, and inventory control, and mentor the warehouse team to meet KPIs while delivering excellent customer service.

You will coordinate with Sales, ensure accurate cycle counts, manage inbound/outbound flows, and maintain DOT compliance. This role requires 3+ years in warehouse leadership, with ERP/MRP experience and proficiency in Excel.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience managing warehouse associates, specifically experience working in a distribution warehouse environment or with flatbed trucks.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Suite, experience with Excel
  • Computer experience utilizing ERP/MRP systems including inventory systems
  • Previous sit-down forklift experience/forklift trainer experience is a big plus.
  • Must be able to stand/walk for up to 8-10 hours daily.
  • Knowledge of distribution center processes, practices, and tools.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, and ability to prioritize.
  • Excellent communication and people skills, collaborating with multicultural staff and other departments.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and analytical abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily operations in a fast-paced and continuously changing distribution warehouse environment.
  • Ensure the warehouse operates at peak efficiency, with safety being the primary goal, by supporting a safe work environment by following safety rules and regulations and reporting all safety hazards.
  • Develop the warehouse team to solve day-to-day operational issues and reach short- and long-term performance goals.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures and complying with California legal regulations.
  • Perform daily equipment, safety, and building inspections, and oversees general maintenance as needed. Makes recommendations for improvements to procedures or equipment.
  • Promote a positive team environment and increase employee engagement by leading by example while motivating and mentoring others.
  • Collaborateswith the Manager to ensure coordination of warehouse activities. Interfaces andconnectswith the Sales team and customers regarding service.
  • Resolve and troubleshoot escalated customer service issues.
  • Quality check of all outbound shipments.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic while maintaining a sense of urgency to complete tasks and accomplish goals set by leadership.
  • Be able to communicate effectively with fellow employees with courtesy and respect.
  • Manages and maintains good human resources practices and adherence to corporate and department policies and procedures.
  • Monitor inbound warehouse inventory and the flow of products to the processors.
  • Oversee trafficking, customer callouts, and delivery logs.
  • Monitor the loading and unloading of all materials, reporting defective or damaged items.
  • Ensure DC is maintained in accordance with the strategic inventory management plan.
  • Execute Cycle Count program and annual physical inventory.
  • Coordinate in/outbound shipments and oversee the loading of outgoing shipments while minimizing or preventing all inventory discrepancies.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained to DOT and Driver satisfaction.
  • Check the safety and configuration of all loads before they leave the facility to ensure DOT compliance.
  • Ability to handle changing priorities and use good judgment in stressful situations.

The Opportunity

The Supervisor will be the primary backup to the DC Manager, responsible for the day-to-day operations, with a focus on safety, quality, inventory control, and efficiency. The ideal candidate will meet or exceed all KPIs, lead and develop the warehouse team and provide impeccable customer service to our customers. The DC Manager andSupervisorwill collaborate to ensure all warehouse and administrative assignments are covered in an efficient manner. TheSupervisordirectly reports to the DC Manager and has decision-making authority as delegated by the DC Manager.

Physical Requirements
  • This position requires considerable physical activity, including standing for prolonged periods, reaching, bending repeatedly, lifting, pushing, and pulling safely up to 50 pounds.
  • Be willing to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which is required in designated areas.
  • Requires lifting to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional exposure to re-tarping activities in supervisory or support

Compensation

Salary $75k - $85k/ year
