Job summary

WHSmith North America is seeking a Distribution Center Lead in Las Vegas to drive accurate and timely processing across multiple small departments. You will oversee VAS workflows, coordinate staff and resources, and ensure safety and efficiency within the DC.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 1+ years in a fast-paced distribution center or warehouse with some supervisory responsibility.
• Experience with warehouse equipment including pallet jacks, lift trucks and stock pickers.
• Experience with hand-held terminals (HHTs).
• Strong leadership, communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to overtime and weekends if required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the VAS area to ensure receipts are processed per DC procedures, including tagging and ticketing.
• Coordinate workload for VAS lanes to maintain steady carton flow to DC associates.
• Communicate ticket printing needs with the Ticketing Coordinator.
• Ensure DC associates have supplies and report shortages promptly.
• Ensure cartons packed in WMS are shipped per DC procedures.
• Report training and productivity issues to supervision immediately.
• Escalate personnel issues to Supervisors/Operations Manager promptly.
• Prioritize orders as directed and manage backstock/Reserve Stock priorities.
• Verify item counts and update distribution/detail counts in WMS.
• Close Detail Counts in WMS daily.
• Complete daily VAS processing and close orders per goals within payroll guidelines.
• Follow through on priority orders to meet ship dates.
• Apply and document vendor chargebacks per guidelines.
• Coordinate used pallet pickups as needed.
• Ensure packing staff are assigned to WIP and inform staffing needs.
• Maintain safety and equipment integrity per DC policies.
• Report accidents and equipment issues immediately.
• Ensure adherence to WHSmith’s DC Safety program.
• Maintain confidentiality of company information.
• Assist Shipping Supervisor and Inbound Lead as needed.
• Support in DC loss prevention measures.
• Other duties as assigned.

The Distribution Center (DC) Lead is responsible for overseeing the accurate and timely process of multiple small departments along side another lead.

Job Responsibilities

• Ensures new receipts in the Value Added Services (VAS) area are processed as per DC procedures including security tagging, ticketing and hanging merchandise as well as processing damaged merchandise
• Coordinates workload assigned to VAS lanes to ensure a consistent flow of cartons to DC Associates
• Coordinates needed ticket printing with Ticketing Coordinator
• Ensure DC Associates have supplies needed and reports any shortages to Supervisor/Operations Manager timely
• Ensures merchandise cartons packed in WMS are shipped per DC procedures
• Reports training/productivity issues immediately to Supervisor
• Report any DC Associate personnel issues to Supervisor or Operations Manager promptly
• Assigns priority orders as directed by the Supervisor or Operations Manager and forwards backstock merchandise priorities to Reserve Stock Leads
• Ensures item count discrepancies are properly verified and distribution/detail counts are updated in WMS as reported
• Ensures Detail Counts are properly closed in WMS
• Ensures daily VAS processing is completed/orders closed in accordance with daily goals keeping payroll guidelines in mind
• Follows through on priority orders assigned to ensure expected ship dates are met
• Applies and photographs when applicable, vendor chargebacks as per the WHSmith Vendor compliance guidelines and DC procedures
• Coordinates used pallet pickups as needed
• Ensures DC packing staff is assigned appropriately to WIP and communicates staffing needs to Supervisor or Operations Manager.
• Reports training/productivity issues immediately to Supervisor
• Operates and uses company equipment in a safe manner at all times in accordance with DC policies and procedures
• Reports all accidents and DC equipment issues to DC management immediately
• Reports defective equipment immediately to supervisor including RF scanners, printers, computer equipment, order pickers and forklifts
• Ensures staff is adhering to WHSmith’s DC Safety program at all times, including practicing safe lifting practices
• Maintains confidentiality of company sources and information
• Assists Shipping Supervisor and Inbound Lead as Assigned
• Assists in DC loss prevention by enforcing all applicable security procedures; ie monitoring of entrance/exit and keeping dock doors secured
• Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

• High School diploma or GED
• 1+ years of experience in a fast paced distribution center or warehouse with some supervisory responsibility
• Previous certification or training on various warehouse equipment including but not limited to pallet jacks, lift trucks and stock pickers
• Previous experience with hand held terminals (HHT’s)
• Strong leadership skills
• Excellent communication and people skills
• Desire to work as a team with a results driven approach
• Ability to multi task and problem solve
• Satisfactory Criminal Background Check and Drug Testing required
• Overtime and weekend work may be required
