Job summary

Canonical is hiring an Engineering Manager for the MAAS team to lead software delivery on Metal as a Service, with deep Linux server expertise and high-performance leadership. You will drive architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and coordinate with cloud-init, LXD, and public cloud groups.

The role emphasizes distributed leadership, on-call engagement, and travel for global events, with a focus on scaling private bare-metal infrastructure for enterprise customers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Demonstrated excellence in academic track records.
• Proven software delivery experience using Python or Golang.
• Experience with Linux system administration (Debian/Ubuntu preferred).
• Familiarity with Linux cloud technologies including networking, storage, containers and Kubernetes.
• Strong distributed systems understanding and English communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead a distributed team of engineers across time zones.
• Coach, mentor and develop engineers; manage expectations with stakeholders.
• Champion modern software development practices and code quality.
• Collaborate across Canonical engineering teams (e.g., cloud-init, LXD).
• Contribute to architecture reviews and technical delivery; travel 4–6 weeks/year.
