Job summary

Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services in Tallahassee seeks a Distributed Computer Systems Analyst to provide 2nd and 3rd level technical support for department employees, covering hardware, software and networked components. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in CS/MIS with two years' experience in the field.

Responsibilities

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and six (6) years of experience in computer systems analysis, computer programming or in planning or designing distributed computer systems;
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and completion of a one-year program of study from a vocational/technical school in an area of data processing (excluding data entry) can substitute for one year of the required experience;
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and three (3) years of experience as described above and either (1) completion of a 720 classroom hour program of study from a vocational/technical school or accredited community college in an area of data processing (excluding data entry), or (2) 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college course work from an accredited institution which includes four courses in computer science or management information systems;
  • A bachelor’s degree (4 years) from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of experience in computer systems analysis, computer programming or in planning or designing distributed computer systems;
  • A bachelor’s degree (4 years) from an accredited college or university with major course of study in one of the computer sciences or in management information systems and one (1) year experience in computer systems analysis, computer programming or in planning or designing distributed computer systems;
  • A master’s degree (6 years) from an accredited college or university with major course of study in one of the computer sciences or in management information systems.
  • Requires possession of a valid Class E driver license.

JOB DUTIES

Assists with 2nd and 3rd Level Technical Support for department employees and workstations, including hardware, software, and communications components. Duties include diagnostic evaluation and technical troubleshooting of software and hardware problems both on-site and remotely via FDACS-owned software and services. Provide technical support for desktops, laptops, printers, and other peripherals. Perform repairs, upgrades, and installations of IT equipment.

Supports the planning, testing, and implementation of projects under the supervision of management. Communicate effectively with clients to understand their technical needs and concerns. Provide clear explanations and instructions to management and clients regarding technical issues and solutions.

Assists with setup of new and existing desktops, completion of installation/relocation paperwork, following standards for desktop software, and tracking of licensed products. Formulate, coordinate, and ensure standards for desktop hardware and software meet the standards set by the Office of Agriculture Technology Services. Document all service requests, troubleshooting steps, and solutions in a ticketing system. Maintain accurate records of equipment inventory and configuration details.

Perform related work as required, which will include, but not be limited to, adherence to the policies and procedures of the Department’s Information Resource Security Program (Chapter 8 – Department’s Supervisory Manual) and allocate time as requested for Disaster Recovery activities.

  • Ability to document and share new techniques or processes.
