Job Description Summary

The Systems Concepts Engineer (DMTS) is responsible for elucidating mission needs, conducting mission engineering, exploring architecture/design trade spaces for integrated hardware/software systems, performing simulation-based performance analysis for complex systems and systems-of-systems, defining architecture using digital engineering (DE) and model-based system engineering (MBSE) frameworks, briefing results to leadership or sponsors, and developing R&D proposals.

Responsibilities

  • Independently develop solutions to complex, multidisciplinary problems aligned with customer priorities.
  • Assist customers in shaping needs and developing requirements for challenging technical problems.
  • Lead large multidisciplinary teams (>10 members), aligning efforts towards program goals and fostering trust.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Systems Engineering.
  • Advance State of the Art (SOA) solutions and techniques in the field.
  • Analyze Draper strategies and collaborate with management to build capabilities for business growth.
  • Identify and mitigate risks across multiple programs or technology areas.
  • Improve organizational operations through collaboration and process improvements.
  • Mentor team members, recognize strengths and weaknesses, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong organizational skills and a system-level problem-solving approach.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Practical experience with simulation-based performance analysis.
  • Experience with systems engineering processes.
  • Proficiency with modeling and simulation tools, coding, SysML, STPA, or other engineering analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of GN&C, avionics architectures, fault tolerance, cybersecurity, communications/encryption, threat modeling, or related technologies may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, or related field; Master’s or higher preferred.
  • 10-15+ years of experience as a systems engineer or related role.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance; Active Secret Clearance required.
