Job summary

The Montgomery Twp is seeking a Dispatch Specialist to support sworn personnel and the public by handling non-emergency calls, monitoring CCTV, and coordinating radio communications on a Township channel. Strong communication skills and confidentiality are required.

The position is regular, full-time and non-exempt, with night, weekend, and holiday shifts on a rotating schedule to ensure continuous coverage within the communications unit.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the Record Management System (RMS), local, state, and Federal databases and perform data entry as necessary.
• Monitor and communicate with officers and agencies as needed, through the law enforcement radio channels (County Radio / Township Channel).
• Monitor the safety and security of prisoners and officers in the Detention Facility via CCTV.
• Assist sworn employees with law enforcement activities.
• Receive, prioritize, process and forward radio and phone calls for service to appropriate agencies/officers.
• Prepare and maintain records and files.
• Assist the public with general information/direction.
• Arrange arraignment hearings and assist with related paperwork.
• Handle checks, cash & money orders for reports, parking tickets and solicitation permits.
• Process solicitation permit application, mail, protection from abuse (PFA) orders, vacant home checks, PA One calls.
• Make notifications to PennDOT/Game Commission.
• Follow department policies and procedures in accordance with the duties and responsibilities of this position.

POSITION TITLE: DISPATCH SPECIALIST

Regular, Full-time, Non-Exempt

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The job functions consist of aiding sworn personnel and the public, directing calls that come into the non-emergency line, monitoring the cell block through closed-circuit television (CCTV), communicating on a Township monitored radio as well as county monitored radio, and performing clerical duties.

This position requires excellent communication skills when interacting with the public, uniformed officers, detectives, and Township personnel.

General:

• The Communications Specialist is not a traditional 911 Emergency Dispatching position. You will be working with officers through secondary dispatching, acting in a support capacity.
• You will be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays that are based on the rotating schedule as shown below.
• This position requires the use of confidential data and databases. A criminal history and background check is required.

Pay Rate:

Probationary Communications Specialist: $25.00 Hour One Year

Communications Specialist III $1.00 Increase Anniversary Date

Communications Specialist II $1.00 Increase Anniversary Date

Communications Specialist I $1.00 Increase Anniversary Date

*The above increases do not include any annual cost of living
