Dispatch Manager (Heavy Equipment Rental / Flatbed)

Dispatch Signal Hill, CA, US

Salary Range: $30.00 To $45.00 Hourly

Power Trip Rentals is seeking an experienced Dispatch Manager to lead our transportation and dispatch operations. This role oversees the daily movement of heavy rental equipment using Class A flatbed and Class C trucks, manages the dispatch team and drivers, and ensures every delivery and pickup is loaded, transported, and completed safely, legally, and on schedule.

This is not general freight, container, or roadside assistance dispatch. We are looking for a leader who comes from the heavy equipment rental or flatbed transportation industry and understands what it takes to move equipment correctly: weight capacities, axle and trailer limits, proper loading and securement, and jobsite delivery logistics. The ideal candidate has hands‑on dispatch experience in this environment and is ready to lead a team in a fast‑paced, high‑volume operation supporting the film, entertainment, and event industries.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, train, and supervise dispatchers and drivers, setting daily priorities and holding the team accountable to safety, accuracy, and on‑time performance
  • Oversee the scheduling and assignment of Class A flatbed and Class C drivers for deliveries, pickups, transfers, and will‑call orders
  • Ensure equipment is matched to the correct truck and trailer type based on weight, dimensions, and load requirements
  • Verify that loads are properly secured and transported in compliance with DOT and FMCSA cargo securement standards
  • Plan and optimize routes and delivery schedules based on jobsite access, delivery windows, equipment size, and operational priorities
  • Monitor fleet utilization, driver productivity, and delivery performance; identify and implement process improvements
  • Serve as the escalation point for delays, site issues, damaged equipment, and customer concerns
  • Coordinate closely with yard, service, sales, and operations leadership to ensure equipment readiness and accurate order fulfillment
  • Oversee driver compliance with DOT regulations, hours of service, ELD requirements, and company safety policies, partnering with HR on driver qualification and documentation
  • Participate in the investigation and reporting of accidents, incidents, and cargo damage
  • Ensure dispatch notes, job statuses, and delivery documentation are accurate and up to date in the rental management system
  • Provide input on hiring, performance reviews, and corrective actions for dispatch and driver staff
  • Step in to dispatch directly during peak periods or staffing shortages

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of dispatch experience in heavy equipment rental, flatbed transportation, or a closely related industry (required)
  • 1+ years of supervisory or lead experience managing dispatchers and/or drivers
  • Strong working knowledge of equipment weights, trailer types (flatbed, step deck, beavertail, lowboy), load securement, and legal weight limits
  • Familiarity with aerial lifts, forklifts, generators, light towers, and similar rental equipment
  • Solid understanding of DOT/FMCSA regulations, hours of service, and driver compliance requirements
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, make quick decisions, and solve problems under pressure
  • Proficient with computers and dispatch or rental management software (Microsoft Office, Outlook)
  • Excellent leadership, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Must be available for weekend coverage and extended hours as business needs require

Preferred

  • Class A CDL or prior experience dispatching flatbed drivers
  • Experience with oversize/overweight permits and routing
