Job summary

Highgate Hotels seeks a Kitchen Steward/Cleaner to support cleaning operations across Food and Beverage areas in Times Square. You will maintain sanitation and assist daily kitchen duties, following health standards for chemical handling.

The role requires physical stamina, standing for long shifts, and a courteous, team-oriented approach to guests and staff. Training and meetings are part of the position.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Operate the dishwashing equipment and ensure sanitation of china, glass, and silver.
  • Return cleaned items to proper storage with care to minimize breakage.
  • Handle chemicals safely and according to protocols.
  • Sweep and mop the kitchen area and related spaces.
  • Wash pots and pans manually.
  • Stock dispensers with paper, soap, and sanitizer.
  • Maintain high cleanliness and organization in kitchens and utility areas.
  • Wash tile floors in food/beverage areas.
  • Empty trash and keep bins clean.
  • Comply with Loss Prevention guidelines.
  • Follow safety rules and procedures; attend trainings.

Overview

The Kitchen Steward/Cleaner is responsible for the cleaning operation in all Food and Beverage areas, and is also expected to to maintain an acceptable level of sanitation and cleanliness throughout the Food and Beverage areas, in accordance with the Department of Environmental & Health Services.

Responsibilities
  • Operate the dishwashing equipment to ensure that all china, glass, and silver are cleaned thoroughly and sanitation of such is maintained.
  • Return all clean china, glass, and silver to its proper storage location using care to minimize breakage.
  • Knowledge of proper safe handling techniques for all chemicals used.
  • Sweep and Mop and assure organization of the entire Kitchen area including: sinks, ice machine, soap and sanitizers
  • Manually wash and scrub all pots and pans.
  • Ensure all dispensers are fully stock of paper, soap and sanitizer.
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and orderliness in all kitchens and utility work areas.
  • Wash tile floors in all food and beverage areas.
  • Empty trash and keep cans clean.
  • Comply with all Loss Prevention guidelines.
  • Sweep and mop floor. Keep floors clean and dry; clean up wet spills immediately.
  • Comply and assure compliance with all safety standards by following all safety rules and procedures.
  • Attend meetings/training as required by management.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent and/or experience in a hotel or related field preferred.
  • Flexible and long hours required at times.
  • Heavy work - Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force frequently and/or 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Ability to stand during entire shift.
  • Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all level of employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service oriented manner.
  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by employees and guests.
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.

  • Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings.
