Job summary

Highgate Hotels is seeking a Kitchen Steward/Cleaner to manage the cleaning operation in all Food and Beverage areas, ensuring sanitation in line with the Department of Environmental & Health Services.

You will operate the dishwashing facility, restock supplies, and maintain a safe, orderly kitchen. The role requires flexible hours, physical endurance for heavy lifting, and reliable attendance. Strong communication and a service-oriented demeanor are essential to support guests and hotel staff.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent and/or experience in a hotel or related field preferred.
  • Flexible and long hours required at times.
  • Heavy work - exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds often and/or 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • Ability to stand during entire shift.
  • Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all levels of employees and guests in a courteous and service-oriented manner.
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  • Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain regular attendance per hotel standards.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the dishwashing equipment to ensure china, glass, and silver are cleaned thoroughly and sanitation is maintained.
  • Return all clean china, glass, and silver to storage with care to minimize breakage.
  • Knowledge of proper safe handling techniques for all chemicals used.
  • Sweep and mop and organize the entire Kitchen area including sinks, ice machine, soap and sanitizers.
  • Manually wash and scrub all pots and pans.
  • Ensure dispensers are fully stocked with paper, soap and sanitizer.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness in kitchens and utility areas.
  • Wash tile floors in all food and beverage areas.
  • Empty trash and keep cans clean.
  • Comply with all Loss Prevention guidelines.
  • Sweep and mop floors, keep them clean and dry; clean spills immediately.
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures.

Overview

The Kitchen Steward/Cleaner is responsible for the cleaning operation in all Food and Beverage areas, and is also expected to maintain an acceptable level of sanitation and cleanliness throughout the Food and Beverage areas, in accordance with the Department of Environmental & Health Services.

Responsibilities
  • Operate the dishwashing equipment to ensure that all china, glass, and silver are cleaned thoroughly and sanitation of such is maintained.
  • Return all clean china, glass, and silver to its proper storage location using care to minimize breakage.
  • Knowledge of proper safe handling techniques for all chemicals used.
  • Sweep and Mop and assure organization of the entire Kitchen area including: sinks, ice machine, soap and sanitizers
  • Manually wash and scrub all pots and pans.
  • Ensure all dispensers are fully stock of paper, soap and sanitizer.
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and orderliness in all kitchens and utility work areas.
  • Wash tile floors in all food and beverage areas.
  • Empty trash and keep cans clean.
  • Comply with all Loss Prevention guidelines.
  • Sweep and mop floor. Keep floors clean and dry; clean up wet spills immediately.
  • Comply and assure compliance with all safety standards by following all safety rules and procedures.
  • Attend meetings/training as required by management.

  • Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas and assist in implementing solutions.
  • Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
  • Must be able to understand and apply complex information, data, etc. from various sources to meet appropriate objectives.
  • Must be able to cross-train in other hotel related areas.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Must be able to show initiative, including anticipating guest or operational needs.
